L E H A V R E N E W S DECEMBER 8 Sunday, November 17 turned out gray and rainy, but eight hardy artists arrived that morning to set up their outstanding collection of work on our temporary art wall. Chuck Bentz, Jim Bischoff, Patricia Brintle, Marion Kashinsky, Flora Levi, Diane Menna, Helene Oelerich and Helma Reid showed beautiful art work and crafts and about 75 local residents came from LeHavre, Cryder Point and Cryder House, as well as from the nearby area, to enjoy. Some even took works home. The admiring words made the artists very pleased and the cozy sociability of our Clubhouse made all enjoy the day. Having Logan›s Cafe serve us lunch and coffee was icing on the cake! Helma showed her lovely quilts and her wall quilt of many colors which took years to make. And her handmade jewelry and place mats found ready buyers. WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! 38-15 Bell Blvd, Bayside, NY 11361 E-MAIL: [email protected] Diane did very colorful, large canvases both impressionistic and representational. Marion›s family portraits were well done and it very interesting to see a bit of her family tree. Her blue/green sunroom fi lled with fl owers and herbs delighted many attendees. Chuck again showed exceptional Long Island scenes of local stores on the East End, as well as seascapes. Pat›s vivid seascapes were bold, as were her fl orals and a purple portrait of a man that reminded me of someone in a small European village in the 19 century. I loved Flora›s “old man bending over to pour out liquid from a pot.” It was bold and very expressive. Her fl oral paintings were also lovely. Jim›s photos of LeHavre and bridges and New York scenes had a quirky, fun feel. He sees things in a different way than most of us and it›s very refreshing. 8 LEHAVRE COURIER | DECEMBER 2013 | WWW.QUEENSCOURIER.COM PHONE: 718-224-5863 FAX: 718-224-5441 ADDRESS: Helene again brought great photos of our local bridges, as well as charming greeting cards with some of her best bridge pictures, the same bridge that we see out of our windows but with stunning sunrises and sunsets. All in all we had a great day talking, laughing, enjoying the art and the wine & cheese that Selma so graciously purchased for us. Thanks to Selma, Tommy our hard working porter, and Marie at the desk who cheerfully provided any help she was asked. I met several family members of our artists and that was a treat. Thanks too to our board of directors, Margaret our manager and Antoinette our new club manager for their help and support. Hope to see you again at our Clubhouse.
