L E H A V R E N E W S 5 O C T O B E R will strive to make Le Havre the Jewel of Queens. WWW.QUEENSCOURIER.COM | OCTOBER 2015 | LEHAVRE COURIER 5 LINDA MCEVATT Are you a resident of Le Havre, and if so, for how long? I have resided at Le Havre for 10 years Have you ever served on any Co-op or Condo board, including Le Havre? I served for one year on the Board of Directors at my prior residence Barclay Gardens, Jackson Heights Condo Complex 1998 - Board Member What special experience, qualifications or abilities can you provide as a Board member? Please include your educational background? • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology • Master’s degree in Social Work • Post Graduate Certificates in Psychotherapy/Counselling My strongest asset for serving on the board would be my unrelenting effort for fairness in all endeavors I am engaged in. I also have wellhoned communication skills. Most importantly, I have an extraordinary sense of humor! What is your occupation? I am a psychotherapist/counselor selfemployed in my own private practice. What do you see as the major priorities for Le Havre for the next year? • Creating an environment of inclusion and respect of all shareholders and non-shareholders who reside in Le Havre • Ensuring that the corporation’s budget continues to be well-managed, but with a concerted effort to engage interested shareholders in that process • Establishing a process where shareholders are encouraged to create and serve on committees related to the management of Le Havre buildings, environment and the overall quality of life in our community BIO AND STATEMENT I moved into LeHavre 10 years ago but maintained a second residence so was away a lot. 3 years ago LeHavre became my only residence and since then I have had more time to fully appreciate the sense of community that exists here—I do feel fortunate to live amongst you all. It was my frustration about the January 2014 dog policy change that highlighted a need (as I see it) for change in our Board’s approach to communicating with shareholders. The dogmatic (pun intended) way in which this was handled was shocking to me. As a result of that policy I became far more engaged in chatting with shareholders about the management of the complex and realized so many of them have strong feelings of dissatisfaction about policies, procedures, poor communications and an overall lack of transparency. I am highly motivated to collaborate with board members in the implementation of an intense effort for shareholders’ inclusion (and nonshareholders at times) in managing our investment. I believe technology is essential for effective communication. I’m a psychotherapist, have a Master’s level education and worked managing teams providing immigration law support to companies in the fields of finance and fashion for 20+ years before a career change. If elected I am confident I will have a positive influence on our community. Please reach out to me at mcevatt.linda@ gmail.com if you have any questions. I vote according to the facts, regardless to how majority vote. What is your occupation? Software Compliance Manager at J.P. Morgan Chase. What do you see as the major priorities for Le Havre for the next year? • Board Transparency • Upkeep of property – long term capital plan • Involved community Additional Information: I am a Software Compliance Manager for a major financial institution. Previously I was a Project Manager. My work experience includes research, strategy, organization, and communication. Throughout my professional career, I learned the necessity of setting a long-term vision and the need for specific action plans to reach it. These same lessons can be applied to the board. The board must have long-term vision, delegate authority to management, provide oversight of the administration, and evaluate its performance according to clearly established expectations. The board provides an important link between the community and management. Members of the board have been elected by the community to be its eyes, ears, and voice. It is important that board members have access to information, listen to all viewpoints from community, and cast their vote on decisions that represent the best interests for our community over the long term. We also need to tackle the key financial and administrative challenges which allow us to effectively maintain the Le Havre quality of life while keeping costs down. The top challenge we face is that of Fiscal responsibility— continuing the current board’s excellent work of putting Le Havre on solid financial footing and charting a course for long term Capital Improvement planning. Le Havre is a reflection of the quality of the community and I am proud to reside here. I believe our community has been moving in the right direction for the past few years. We have completed a major necessary capital improvement project to our buildings, our finances are solid. Never before have I seen such a wide variety of engaged, involved residents; at the pool, and in the variety of activities that are held in the clubhouse. By being re-elected, I hope to ensure we continue to move in a positive direction. TOM TSOUNIS Are you a resident of LeHavre, and if so, for how long? I’ve watched the neighborhood grow over the years with new members and families, and noticed so many of our existing members remaining. There are countless reasons folks choose to join us and decline to leave. From serving as the Board President for two years and as a member of the Recreation and Budget committees, I have contributed to this community on myriad levels. I have been involved with the cement work on our porticos under our buildings and helped re-design our clubhouse & gym. I feel our amenities help make our co-op one of the prime developments in Queens. I was involved in our recent successful fight against the city tax increase and have been working to bring our community together through mediation. I have a good sense of what the community cares about, and I know that certain issues such as potential maintenance increases are extremely unpalatable. If I am elected to the board, my hard work and dedication to this neighborhood will be put forward to ensure that the costs of living here are not further increased, that the expectation of residents are met and that Le Havre continues to be a great place to live.
