N E W S M A Y 12 L E H A V R E The Dining Diva: The Buffet - Authentic Pan-Asian Dining BY HELENE OELERICH The Buffet is a spacious, inviting, modern restaurant located on the fourth floor (reached by elevator) of the Hotel de Point in College Point and offers unlimited portions of Chinese, Japanese and American food. It also has a wonderful view of Manhattan, and most of the tables are placed against the windows. Wherever you sit, you can see the city and the beautiful New York skyline. As the name suggests, you get up and down to bring all kinds of food to your table. The selection includes New York strip steak, chicken breast, sea scallops and Pacific shrimp with vegetables. There is also a carving station, Hong Kong roast, yakitori, sushi, casseroles, sliced duck, a fruit station and pastries and desserts (including cotton candy and ice cream!), plus much more. The prix fixe menu also includes your choice of several kinds of soups and salads plus hot beverages, soda and juice. The Buffet is very family-oriented, and is perfect for couples and party groups as well. We had 15 people for a Christmas Day buffet, and it was loved by all! Be sure to come early on weekends—the restaurant does not take reservations, and lines get long. A nearby parking lot is available. The Buffet is located at the Hotel de Point, 20-07 127 Street in College Point. Lunch is $18.99 Monday to Friday and $22.99 on Saturday and Sunday. Dinner is $30.99 Monday to Thursday and $33.99 Friday to Sunday (children’s prices are much lower). A 15% gratuity is added to all checks. Phone 718-866-3722 for more information. P.S. COME HUNGRY! The Courier Corner: Letters from LeHavre Residents 12 LEHAVRE COURIER | MAY 2016 | WWW.QNS.COM Helene and Justin Jiang, Manager of The Buffet The LeHavre Courier welcomes letters from residents. Send your letters to jdavis@queenscourier.com and be sure to put “LeHavre Courier Submission” in the subject line. Please include your full name and the best way to contact you (in case we have any questions). Unfortunately, we cannot promise to respond to all submissions, but we’ll try! Thanks, and we look forward to hearing from you! Dear LeHavre Courier: Jimmy and I have been in LeHavre for almost a year and a half. We moved here from Manchester, England to be closer to his Mom who lives in Cryder House. I get asked a lot about how am I adapting, do I like it here? The answer is I really do love LeHavre and our beautiful apartment overlooking the water and bridge. Settling in took some adjustment but using the gym was the best thing that we could have done. Right from the start we met great people, got invited out for meals and when the summer came around and the pool opened, our social life blossomed and we have made wonderful friends. If I had any advice for newcomers to the community it would be to use the facilities. You will meet lots of friendly people and your transition into life at LeHavre will be all the smoother as people living here are the best form of information when you need it. I have to say the maintenance staff is really great; nothing is too much trouble, so don’t be afraid to call if you need help with plumbing issues, electrical or just some advice if you are doing a remodel in your apartment. I love my new life here in LeHavre, we go into the city most weekends--with no traffic it’s a twenty minute drive away, or we take the LIRR from Bayside or Murray Hill. Believe it or not this Manchester United soccer fan has become a diehard New York Rangers fan and I have attended lots of games. LeHavre is our new home and we plan on being here a long time enjoying the easy lifestyle and wonderful people we have met and are yet to meet. Lorraine Kyriazis Dear LeHavre Courier: We’ve been living in LeHavre since February 2015 and are loving it. We had been renting in a two-family house in Bayside just off Bell Blvd for over 15 years until the landlord decided to sell the house. We had looked in LeHavre about 10 years ago but never took that final step. Last year we met a lot of new people, had a lot of fun playing bingo, and of course loving the two pools! The people we sat with at the pool gave us a little history lesson about early LeHavre, which was fascinating stuff. The connection to the 1964 World’s Fair was especially interesting. The fact that apartments here were provided for the people who worked at the Fair and that the buildings here were painted all different colors was surprising, and we’d love to see some old photos. Can anybody share their memories about “the good old days”? Audrey Wolfe & Kathleen Doherty Lorraine and Jimmy Kyriazis Dear Audrey and Kathleen: I can’t speak to apartments being provided to workers at the World’s Fair, but we’d love to hear from residents with those fond memories. In the meantime, we dug up this old photo of LeHavre from back-in-theday. Enjoy! – Ed Uncredited photo of LeHavre, circa 1970
