LOBBY & HALLWAY UPDATE
Following two years of planning, Le Havre’s
Lobby and Hallway renovations began just about a
year ago and yes, they will all be done soon.
To refresh everyone’s mind and inform newer residents
who may not know about the project’s inception,
Le Havre’s lobbies and hallways hadn’t been
redone for more than 30 years and the need for serious
work became obvious. Board President Stanley
Greenberg explained last year, “The walls were done
when the complex was converted to a co-op back in
1984. Steve Young, Board Vice President, added that
the old mailboxes were “ancient,” and the “marble in
the lobbies was cracked, the carpets were beginning
to show their age, and the wallpaper in the hallways
was very worn.”
Fast forward to the present, and the lobbies and
hallways have been undergoing a “gut renovation”
that includes not only the walls and flooring, but also
new mailboxes, peepholes, mirrors, light fixtures and
luxury vinyl tile for each laundry room floor. When
you consider how extensive the work is and that it
involves every lobby and every floor of all 32 of Le
Havre’s nine-story buildings, the project is daunting.
It has also involved a million decisions, from mirror
and lighting selection for the lobbies to wallpaper
in the hallways to the color of the trim around the elevators.
“Choosing the carpeting for the hallways was
the toughest,” Steve reported. “So many options…
that was hard.” Happily, feedback from residents has
been very positive and the overall atmosphere of the
buildings is airy and inviting.
The project has also required a lot of oversight
from Le Havre’s staff, which has been dealing
with many different tradespeople (carpenters, carpet
installers, electricians, and more) working at various
stages of the project all across the property.
Stanley and Steve want to thank Le Havre’s
dedicated staff for keeping the project moving forward.
“I have to give big credit to General Manager
Margaret Costello, Superintendent Piotr Moscicki
and Assistant Superintendent Anthony Ferrante for
all of their hard work. It’s been a huge amount of
work.”
Considering all of the complexities involved, the
project is indeed moving along steadily. As of this
writing, 20 buildings have been completed and
Stanley reported, “We anticipate that it will all be
done this summer.”
