“’A Star Is Born’” is such a great Hollywood
myth that it’s no wonder Hollywood keeps telling
it. Whatever the era, the director or the headliners,
it relates the story of two lovers on dramatically
differing paths: a famous man (Bradley
Cooper) who’s furiously racing to the bottom and
a woman (Lady Gaga) who’s soaring to the top.
This latest and fourth version is a gorgeous heartbreaker
(bring tissues). Like its finest antecedents,
it wrings tears from its romance and thrills from
a steadfast belief in old-fashioned, big-feeling
cinema.” ~ Manohla Dargis, The New York Times

for Best Supporting Actress and Justin Hurwitz

This biopic on the life of the legendary

1961 through 1969, follows his journey to
becoming the first human to walk on the moon.
It explores the sacrifices and costs of the nation
as well as Neil himself, during one of the most
dangerous missions in the history of space travel.

Director: Damien Chazelle
Writer: Josh Singer
Cast: Ryan Gosling, Claire Foy, Jason
Clarke
“…For the first time, space travel is not
treated as some grandiose, cinematic adventure
but what it probably was (the film is based
on Armstrong’s book)—an absolutely terrifying
nightmare…every time space travel is shown
in ‘First Man’ it is harrowing…The technical
accomplishments of ‘First Man’ are something
to behold…but this is a very human story as
well. It results in a surprisingly moving film,
but on a more character, specific level than
we usually see in space films. And it’s never
showy, especially in Ryan Gosling’s very quiet,
subdued performances. It’s one of his best.” ~

Edward Norton
“A winningly dippy hodgepooch of lo-fi
sci-fi, band-of-outsiders adventure and the
most meme-ready canine antics you’ll find
outside of YouTube, this leisurely tale of
abandoned mutts taking on a corrupt human
government is effectively puppy-treat cinema:
small, salty, perhaps not an entire meal, but
rewarding nonetheless…every beast here is
characterfully conceived, rendered with rich,
tactile manginess, and observed with a loving
dogoisseur’s eye for behavioral detail.” ~ Guy
Lodge, Variety
