The Dining Diva: Elias Corner for Fish BY HELENE OELERICH If you like fresh fi sh, caught on the day you go, then get over to Elias Corner, because this is the restaurant for you! Grilled fi sh is their specialty, and I LOVE IT! One of the things that makes this Greek restaurant unique is that there is no menu! Instead, customers are advised to check out the “Cold Case” as they enter the restaurant. There, you will see several different kinds of fresh fi sh. Examples are salmon, red snapper and branzino, just to name a few. There is also delicious lobster and many side dishes including fried potatoes, fantastic Greek salad, and lots of wonderful appetizers such as shrimp, clams and whatever else the server tells you is available that day. This is a casual, “no frills” place, and in nice weather there is a lovely outdoor area. Beer and wine are offered and, even though there’s no set menu, the prices are hard to beat (cash only; no credit cards). You can order for takeout, and there is also free parking. Elias is open from 4pm until midnight, Monday through Friday, and from noon to midnight on Saturdays and Sundays. Elias Corner is located in Astoria, Queens @24-02 31st Street @24th Avenue. Call 718-932-1510 or visit www.eliascorner.com for more information. Elias exterior Cold Case Grilled salmon (deboned) Helene and husband Phil Helene and owner Elias
