MOVIE NIGHT IN ALLEY
POND PARK: FROZEN 2
Friday, August 13, 8:10 pm – 9:55 pm
Springfield Blvd. & 76 Avenue
Since it’s August, Elsa the Snow Queen’s extraordinary
gift -- the power to create ice and snow – would
be mighty welcome right now. Relax under the stars
with the kids and enjoy this highly acclaimed sequel.
Todd McCarthy of the Hollywood Reporter wrote,
«Frozen 2 has everything you would expect—catchy
new songs, more time with easy-to-like characters,
striking backdrops, cute little jokes, a voyage of discovery
plot and female empowerment galore—expect
the unexpected.» Attendees are advised to bring
your own lawn chair or blanket.
NEW YORK
RENAISSANCE FAIRE
Saturdays & Sundays, August 21 – October 3, 10
am – 7 pm
600 Rte. 17A, Tuxedo, New York
renfair.com/ny/
845-351-5171
It was canceled last year but is back in action with
period-accurate actors, merchants, performers,
knights and even some magic. According to Google,
it takes just under two hours to get there from
our area, so this could make a fun day trip with the
kids (or without!). The promoters say that some experiences
have been modified to reduce contact and
social distancing between parties is encouraged.
Adult tickets are $29.95; kids 5-12 $13.00; children
under 5 are free; and those 62+ or military $25.95.
However, coupons and discounts are available, so
check the website to get in on the price breaks.
Hopefully you don’t suffer from
“coulrophobia” (pronounced coalruh
fow-bee-uh), otherwise known as
the fear of clowns. If you do, you can
skip this part. National Clown Day
this year is on August 7, capping off
International Clown Week, August
1 – 7.
Did you know there are over 10,000
clowns in organized clown groups
and over 20,000 clowns worldwide?
It looks like Nixon did. On August
2, 1971 he issued Proclamation 4071,
making August 1-7, 1971, National
Clown Week. While the proclamation
was made for a specific date and
year, this celebration of clowns has occurred
at exactly the same time every
year. It is always August 1-7.
NEW YORK RESTAURANT WEEK
Now through August 22
nycgo.com
Seems that NYC
Restaurant “Week”
keeps getting longer
and longer. But let’s
not split hairs, at least
it’s back. Well, sort of.
The number of restaurants
participating
this go-round seems
far fewer than in past
years. To spice things
up, many establishments are not only offering the standard $21 lunch/$39
dinner but have added “Signature Dining Experiences” which gives you
three courses or more for $125. Fancy!
Locally, one of the few restaurants taking part is Donovan’s in Bayside,
but you can find the whole list of places throughout the five boroughs on
nycgo.cm.

CLASSIC CAR EXHIBIT &
MORE
Tuesdays, August 17 & 31, 5 pm – 9 pm
Bay Terrace Shopping Center
queensclassiccarclubinc.net
With new cars in such short supply now, you probably
wish you had hung on to your dad’s old 1968 Mustang.
You’d not only have wheels, but you could join
the Queens Classic Car Club and show off your beauty
at this nearby exhibit. This free show features about 80
cars and includes a 50/50 raffle for Saint Mary’s Hospital
for Children. There’s also music from cover bands such
as Contraband, Chickenhead Rocks and Bootleg Five (I
don’t know who they are either). Visit the club’s website
for more information.
