C R Y D E R P O I N T AUGUST 11 Tony Takes the Cake! Residents gathered together in the Community Room on Sunday, July 17, to give Tony Sr. a nice Cryder Point sendoff for his retirement. The party, which Tony knew about beforehand, was scheduled to start at noon. But as folks began to arrive, it became obvious that the guest of honor was missing. “Where’s Tony?” people murmured. True to form, Tony, who was on duty that morning, was upstairs lingering in the lobby and chatting away with residents who stopped by the desk to wish him well. Finally a couple of people actually had to go up to the lobby to bring Tony to his own party! Residents from all three buildings attended, but this was also a family affair, as Tony’s wife, Mary, daughter Laura, son Tony Jr. and grandson A.J. joined the party. The celebration was organized by residents of the 01 Building, Tony’s home base at Cryder Point for the past couple of years, and residents chipped in for decorations, coffee, doughnuts and a special cake dedicated to him. They also managed to find a really funny yet sentimental memento--a huge farewell card that said “Take us with you” and featured a caricature of a man who bore an uncanny resemblance to Tony himself. Despite the size of the card— two feet tall or more—there was hardly any space left on it after everyone signed it with their good wishes for the Man of the Hour. Naturally there were speeches and more than a few tears and hugs when it sank in that this was Tony’s last official day at Cryder Point. However, as previously reported and confirmed by Tony, he will be filling in from time to time after taking some well-deserved vacation this summer. So happily, we haven’t seen the last of him yet! I said, “Sure!” Here’s what he has to say: “I just want to thank everybody for the goodbye party you gave me. I had a good time, and my son and daughter put pictures up on Facebook. I also want to say that it was a lot of fun during all the years I worked at Cryder. Thank you all.” ~Tony Budney, Sr. Tony and grandson A.J.
