Cuba has topped the list of seven
Caribbean countries that appear on
the final medal table from the Summer
Olympic Games, which ended
in Tokyo on Sunday, according to
the Caribbean Media Corporation
(CMC).
It said the Spanish-speaking Caribbean
country won 15 medals as
Caribbean nations finished with 15
gold, seven silver and nine bronze.
For the Cubans, CMC said their
gold came in boxing, through Andy
Cruz, Julio la Cruz, Arlen Lopez and
Roniel Iglesias, along with threegold
medal performance in rowing,
allowed them to end in 14th place on
the overall medal table.
The other Caribbean nations on
the medal table were Jamaica, the
Bahamas, Bermuda, Puerto Rico, the
Dominican Republic and Grenada,

Pakistan wins
T20 series

Pakistan clinched the rain-hit fourmatch
Twenty20 series against the the
West Indies 1-0 after the fourth match
ended in no result recently.
Three matches in the series ended in
no result due to rain, hurting the preparation
of both teams ahead of the Twenty20
World Cup that begins in October.
West Indies were 3-0 in the three
overs possible before rain forced the players
off the field.The match was reduced

Windies put
faith in Gayle

West Indies Coach, Phil Simmons
is backing veteran Chris Gayle to still
be a force for the West Indies when the
delayed ICC World Cup T20 tournament
comes around in October in the UAE.
Gayle, 41, was a member of both the
West Indies teams that became World
Champions in 2012 and 2016. But the
form of Twenty20’s cricket most prolific
batsman has been questioned in recent
years.
However, following Gayle Man-ofthe
Match 67 in the third match of the
recent series against Australia.
Gayle was not able to follow up on
his latest effort with another big score,
making just one.
Simmons stressed there was a definite
role still for Gayle in the World Cup
