August 20. Stairwell Theater presents
Henry VI, Part 1: Stairwell Theater
presents the rarely seen first section of
Shakespeare’s Henry VI trilogy. Bring
a picnic blanket, refreshments, and
snacks, and settle into this thrilling
war play featuring military music, puppets,
and derring-do.The performance
runs approximately 120 minutes with
intermission.Presented outdoors at OSH
free to the public. Please register in
advance here. Note: This production features
bright lights, smoke, loud noises,
and rambunctious puppets. We request
that all unvaccinated audience members
wear masks. Post-show donations to
support Stairwell’s work are appreciated.

Community Arts Day Festival. Our
arts program specializes in providing
access to classical art forms for underprivileged
students/adults of color from
across New York City. We are hosting
a Community Arts Day Festival performance
to raise funds for our fall
programming (Ballet Bedstuy, Street
Dance Conservatory, Brass Key & Vocal,
and Open Adult Class Division) as well
as increase additional support for our
scholarship fund for our most economically
challenged students. We hope this
event will provide exposure to various
performing art forms and artists to our
local community members. Our free
festival will include performances and
classes from a diverse range of upcoming
professional dancers, musicians, and
singers from around the community,
and speeches from various local politicians.
The evening will be in person and
live-streamed via the @bkcenterforarts
Instagram and Brooklyn Center for the
Arts Facebook accounts. 3 – 8 pm. Free.

August 22. Land Markings Exhibition
Opening: Join us in the Great Room
next Sunday for the opening reception
of our latest contemporary art exhibition,
Land Markings. Land Markings
brings together four New York based
artists of Indigenous heritage: Jeremy
Dennis, Dennis RedMoon Darkeem, Ella
Mahoney & Natasha Smoke Santiago,
who have created works commenting on
the past, present and future of land use
in the areas surrounding OSH. Curated
by Katherine Gressel and RedMoon Arts,
Inc. The exhibition will be on view Fri
– Sun from Noon – 3 pm until Oct. 11.
Please note that the Great Room is on
the second floor and unfortunately is
not wheelchair accessible. August 22, 3

Festival Minokan: A Celebration
of Haitian Culture. Festival Minokan
invites all members of the community to
participate in the rich traditions of Haitian
culture and Haitian Vodou. Together
we’ll honor our spirits and our ancestors,
praise the Earth, and rejoice in song and
dance. Join us as we explore the history
of Vodou and the Haitian diaspora
through artist’s talks, dance, song, and
food. This year, Festival Minokan will
be focusing on the sacred site of Seremoni
Petwo (Ceremony Petro). HISTORY,

candlelight vigil, honoring lives lost to
Covid-19, outdoors on 5th Ave between
3rd & 4th streets this Saturday. The

City Ballet Orchestra, of works by Bach
and Leonard Cohen. + Reflections by
Pastor Logan Dagley, local faith leader

Elohim. + Candle lighting during Lydia’s

Black VegFest Pull Up! August 14,
2021, Lincoln Terrace Park, Brookly, NY,
12pm–5pm. Black VegFest will hold a
free outdoor festival focusing on Black
liberation, animal welfare, healthier living,
and a better planet. The event will

organizations, lots of good vegan food
from Black/BIPOC* vegan chefs, two

August 18. 4th Ave Yarn Bomb Meet
Up: If you knit, crochet, or weave, bring
your supplies and join in the fun with
the 4th Ave Yarn Bomb! The 2021 theme
is Protecting the Earth/Climate Change.
Community crafting sessions will be
held on Wednesday evenings from 5 pm
– 7 pm in the OSH North Garden (off of
3rd Street) though August and September.
Participants can also craft at home
and drop-off pieces in October. Email

info. The yarn bomb will be installed on
October 2- 3 before the Kings County
