training in Alaska

Under the theme: “Mentoring the
Next Generation,” 16 female officers
of the Guyana Police Force / Guyana
Association of Women Police (GAWP),
led by Deputy Commissioner Maxine
Graham, DSM, and Superintendent
Grace Davis, received mentoring,
and training in peer support, during
the 57th International Association of
Women Police (IAWP) Annual Training
Conference held in Anchorage,
Alaska.
The female officers, during the
Sept. 23-27 Conference also benefited
from training in areas such as Leadership,
the Origins of Sexual Violence,
Gender Equality in Law Enforcement
and Human Trafficking among others
at the forum where more than 800
delegates from 43 countries were in
attendance.
The IAWP, during its annual outreach
programs, encourages female
officers and other ranks to attend and
benefit from this training, which will
enhance their capacity and help them
to perform more efficiently and effectively,
something of which has been
successful over the years, and which
the Guyanese officers will deeply benefit
from, after they return to Guyana.
The Guyanese officers arrived at the
Den’ina Civic and Convention Center
on Friday, Sept. 20 where the conference
was hosted for the third time.
The opening ceremony was held
on Monday, Sept. 23, 2019, at the
Dena’ina Civic and Convention Center,
followed by the parade of the nations
through the downtown area of Alaska
with the Guyanese officers proudly
carrying a large Golden Arrowhead
Guyana flag.
According to the IAWP website, the
organization was founded in 1915 to
strengthen, unite and raise the capacity
of women in policing internationally.
The IAWP has members in more
than 60 countries and supports
the unique role women play in law
enforcement.
