The changes were recently
announced at a CWI media conference,
resulted from recommendations
put forward by a CWI selection
task force headed by Vice President,
Dr. Kishore Shallow and including
Director of Cricket, Jimmy Adams.
CWI President, Ricky Skerritt, who
said selection panels would be staffed
shortly, explained the new changes
were aimed at creating the “best possible
practices that could lead to the
best possible outcomes.”
A selection analyst will be attached
to the panels while the men’s panel
will benefit from three scouts who
will undertake the role of monitoring
players throughout the region.
Dr. Shallow said in the past there
had been little analytical approach to
the selection of players and it had not
augured well for player development
or performance.
The captain, along with the head
coach and the executive director, will
choose the final player XI, but while
the captain will be involved in squad
selection, he will not have a vote.
Despite this, Skerritt said the captain
still remained a key role in the
selection process.

titles going alongside Olympic gold
medal win in 2008 and 2012 and perhaps
more to come at the 2020 Tokyo
Summer Games.
The 32-year-old Jamaica now stands
alone in terms of the world championships
where her four titles are one
better than her compatriot Usain Bolt
and American Carl Lewis and Maurice
Green.
Meanwhile, Jamaica ended Saturday
with a gold medal as Tajay Gayle won
the long jump. His jump of 8.69 meters
gave the nation known for sprinters
its first world title in a field event. Jeff
Henderson of the U.S. was second and
Cuba’s Juan Miguel Echevarria third.

Organizers of the Caribbean
Premier League (CPL)
say with the help of the CPL, a
new crop of Twenty20 stars is
on the horizon.
CPL Chief Operating Officer,
Pete Russell said West Indies
team was now experiencing a
transition period, and he was
confident that with some of
the younger players around
including Shimron Hetmyer,
and Nicholas Pooran and
more developing in the coming
years in the CPL West
Indies supporters should not
be worried.
West Indies has produced
some of the world’s best Twenty20
cricketers such as Dwayne
Bravo, Kieron Pollard, Chris
Gayle, Andre Russell, Sunil
Narine, Darren Sammy, Lendl
Simmons and Dwayne Smith.
Those top players helped the
West Indies to world Twenty20
titles in 2012 and 2016.
However, most of those players
are either in the twilight of
their career or not back in the
West Indies team after feuding
with Cricket West Indies
(CWI) for years.
Since 2016 West Indies have
struggled to find consistency
and are now ranked ninth
in the International Cricket
Council (ICC) Twenty20 rankings.
Russell said playing in the
CPL is an opportunity to gain
exposure and get signed to
other Twenty20 leagues adding
that West Indies players
deserve that opportunity.
He said fast bowler Oshane
Thomas is another player who
has developed because of the
CPL and is considered one of
the most promising fast bowlers
in the region.
