On Saturday, Dec. 4, Monsignor
Scanlan High School’s
track team competed in our
fi rst indoor meet for the 2021
season. The sixth Annual
S.I.H.S.T & F.A. Relays (Staten
Island Relay) at the Ocean
Breeze Recreational Facility in
Staten Island.
There were many relay
races for all grades. Plus, they
had individual races, 400- and
3200-meter races. Medals were
awarded to the top fi ve winners.
The Crusaders’ Freshman
Girls continue a positive
note after their awesome
cross-country season. Dakota
Hickman, Candice Palmer, Saniah
Caldwell and Talia Dixon
competed in the Freshman
4×200-meter relay. The meet record
was 2:01.3 minutes, set on
Dec. 3, 2016. The Crusaders won
the race with a time of 1:53.39
minutes, breaking a 5-year-old
meet record. Plus, Dixon, Kima
Hickman, Rakae Thomas and
Caldwell (all freshman girls)
competed in the Freshman/
Sophomore Sprint Medley Relay
(400, 200, 200 and 800 meters)
and won the gold medal.
Then, Rakea took fi rst place,
Candice fi nished second place,
Kimaris came in third place,
and Dakota fi nished in fi fth
place in the Junior Varsity
girls 400-meter race. All medaled.
The Crusaders’s Boys also
looked good. Ranaldo Fong,
Ferdiand Guevaoa, Tristan
Vega and Klye Matthews competed
in the Boys Sprint Medley
Relay (400, 200, 200 and 800
meters). They just missed earning
medals with a sixth-place
fi nish. But Dontae Lindo took
fi rst place and Matthews came
in third place in the Junior Varsity
400 meters, earning medals.
Our next meet is on Saturday,
Dec. 11, the 70th annual
CHSAA Intersectional Relay
Carnival at the Armory in Fort
Washington, New York.
