To the Editor,
Drip, drip, drip, watch
your tax dollars go down the
drain. Have you also seen
all the “Don’t Let Tax Or
Repair Charges Come Between
You and Your Property”
full page ads in many
daily and weekly neighborhood
newspapers? It deals
with New Yorkers who owe
real estate tax, emergency
repair or other propertyrelated
charges “the City
of New York may sell a lien
on your property” advertisement.
Is this the best
way the NYC Departments
of Finance and Housing
Preservation and Development
can spend taxpayers
dollars? Why can’t these
two agencies compare their
respective lists of people
who owe money with those
fi ling city and state tax returns?
Surely the technology
exists to place a lien on
any tax refunds? You could
also extend citizens the
courtesy of a telephone call,
letter or email informing
them of their overdue obligations.
What’s next, will
City Hall send out city marshals
going door to door
serving subpoenas? Will
Mayor Eric Adams, City
Comptroller Brad Ladner,
Public Advocate Jumaane
Williams, the next New
York City Council speaker
and City Council class put
an end to this waste, fraud
and abuse of taxpayers dollars?

To the Editor,
I wholeheartedly agree
with the main point of Larry
Penner’s letter in the Dec. 3
edition of the Bronx Times,
that we cannot continue to be a
debtor nation without serious
consequences. But, yet again,
the author does not tell the
whole story. Biden, Schumer
and Pelosi may have been the
leading Democrats pushing
the infrastructure bill but they
are not the only ones. The author
— whose political views
appear to run Republican/
Libertarian — conveniently
neglects to mention that some
Democrats voted against the
bill and some Republicans
voted for it. Why is the author
silent about the Republicans
that voted for the bill?
Doesn’t the author care
enough about his opinion
pieces to stop telling half
truths and omit those facts
that are inconvenient to his
opinion?
Nat Weiner
To the Editor,
This week, quoting liberally
from the notoriously
partisan Boston Herald, the
resident far-right columnist
created an unbelievable
hatchet job on U.S. Rep. Adam
Schiff and Democratic leaders
in general. In his curious
view, Russia did not help
elect the 45th U.S. President,
notwithstanding the copious
evidence that indicates otherwise.
The nonexistent “deep
state” as well as Democratic
leaders are, in his opinion, responsible
for the abysmal failures
of the Trump presidency.
The author falsely claims that
the House Intelligence Committee
found “…there was
no evidence to support the
charges against President
Trump.” However, an Intelligence
Community assessment
found “… Vladmir Putin ordered
an infl uence campaign
in 2016 aimed at the US presidential
election…. and the
Russian government developed
a clear preference for …
Trump”. This judgment was
confi rmed by the House Permanent
Select Committee on
Intelligence.
The Russia Transcripts
and Documents report states,
“Throughout its investigation,
the Committee uncovered
signifi cant evidence of
Trump campaign efforts to
seek, make use of, and cover
up Russian help in the 2016
presidential election.” Such a
clear statement of culpability
is rejected by the ideologue as
being “made up” and demonstrates
the author’s penchant
for disregarding facts that
contradict his prejudices.
At one time this column
was followed by a disclaimer
urging readers not to rely on
the opinions of the author but
to research the issues raised
in order to make an informed
judgment on the merits of his
statements. This week’s column
illustrates the necessity
of reinstating such a disclaimer
on the work of this
individual who seems to have
little respect for accuracy.
