On Saturday, Oct. 16, 2021,
Monsignor Scanlan High
School’s track team competed
in the NYC Cross Country
Carnival, formerly known as
the Fordham Prep Freshman
Cross Country Relays and the
Eastern States Cross Country
Meet at the legendary Van
Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
The following races were
contested: 2.5-mile run for the
sophomore to varsity athletes.
1,500 meters freshman 5-person
relay and individuals
freshman race. Medals were
awarded to the top 10 freshman
teams, Girls and Boys.
Medals to the top 10 freshman
in the individuals 1,500 meters
race. Medals to the top 25
Varsity Girls and Boys. Top
20 medals to the Boys B Race.
Plaques were given to all winning
teams!
Crusaders had a Freshman
Girls team compete, which
consist of Candice Palmer, Diamond
Fields, Rakea Thomas,
Saniah Caldwell and Talia
Dixon. In a close race, the
Crusaders was able to pull
out a fi rst-place fi nish to earn
a plaque. The meet director
stated that this was Monsignor
Scanlan High School
fi rst time winning this event
after 65 years. Awesome job!!
We also had a Boys team
compete and shown great improvement.
They consist of
Kyle Matthews, who led the
Crusaders with a time of 17:27
in the 2.5-mile run, followed
by Dontea Lindo, with a time
of 17:42 and new personal record.
Then, Zion Barnabas,
Alan Perera and Ethan Lithgrow.
Alan PRed in four consecutive
meets, outstanding.
Ethan also PRed at this meet!
They are showing good improvement!
Freshman Ferdinand
Guevara also ran in the
school mix relay and looked
good!
Our next meet is on Saturday,
Oct. 30 the NYCHSAA /
BQCHSAA Sectionals Championships
at Van Cortlandt
Park and on Saturday, November
6th CHSAA Freshman
/ Sophomore Championship

Bantams-Charlie’s Angels
battled it out against Side
Street Sports. It was a great
game with a fi nal score of 6-3
. Goals were scored by Sabrina
Ben Sour (2), Leila Ben
Sour (1), and Michael Guarnieri
(2). Vironica Velez playing
strong defense. Johnny
Seigmond as goalie and solid
defense as well. Olivia Ramos
stopping multiple goals
from going in and playing
great on forward. Awesome
job by Valentina Ragusa, Damianna
Devita, Dominick
Barba, Catherine Ruocco and
Giuliana Impellizzeri. We
are extremely proud of them!

Girls Majors-A beautiful
Sunday game as Capital
Shield Insurance continues
their streak of wins against
Crosstown Diner 3-0. Emily
Negron in the net with some
great saves as the opposing
team pressed on. Standout
defensive play by Daniella
Mosca (1) with another goal
under her belt and impressive
defense by Iliana Torres
with both Emma Kurtovic
and Ayla Sanchez backing
them up. Fantastic skills
played by Amber Kurtovic
with 2 goals in the fi rst ten
minutes of the game. Other
notable players were Danielle
Shack, Lillian Kavanagh,
Neomi Gonzalez and
Mia Lappe with excellent
teamwork controlling the
midfi eld.

A Veteran’s Day Ceremony,
honoring those who served and
gave their lives during WWII,
will be held at noon on Sunday,
Nov. 7, at the Memorial Grove in
Van Cortlandt Park, at Broadway
and West 246th Street.
