Thousands turned out to raise
money and awareness for breast
cancer on Oct. 17, at Orchard Beach
in the Bronx. As part of the Making
Strides Against Breast Cancer
initiative, participants in the
event were able to raise more than
$350,000 this year which will allow
the American Cancer Society to invest
in groundbreaking research,
provide free rides to chemo and
places to stay near hospitals, and
24/7 answers and support for those
facing the disease.

Montefi ore recognizes Organ
Donor Enrollment Day
Organ Donor Enrollment Day was Oct. 7. Started by LiveOnNY in 2015, this
initiative is “committed to bringing hope to the nearly 10,000 New Yorkers currently
waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant. We do this by educating communities
on the importance of organ donation and by encouraging willing individuals
to sign up as registered organ donors.”

On Oct. 15, FoodStream Network, a social platform that easily connects leaders
in the food industry with local groups to distribute fresh produce and hot
meals to food insecure communities, launched its fi rst in a four-week series of
pop-up farmers markets in the Bronx in partnership with Phipps Neighborhoods.
The pilot program is committed to reaching more than 1,000 households
across the South Bronx and building stronger relationships between local community
groups, restaurateurs and BIPOC farmers who continue to struggle as a
result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
