Trenier opens Bronx Terminal show
BY ALEX MITCHELL
One the borough’s most talented
muralists opened a pop up, solo show
in the borough for the fi rst time.
Kingsbridge’s own Andre Trenier
debuted and showed off some of his
largest and most elaborate pieces to a
crowd of art afi cionados at the Bronx
Terminal Market on Thursday, June
25.
Fittingly enough, the pop up is also
just blocks down from much of Trenier’s
well known, New York Yankees
murals that are etched onto many a
store’s roll-down security gate outside
of the famous Yankee Stadium.
It was after college that he formed
his relationship with the Yankees and
began leaving his legacy on River Avenue.
“I grew up loving the Yankees.
Thurman Munson was always my
favorite, getting the opportunity to
paint his mural and so many others
really was an outstanding experience,”
Andre said.
Some of the other Yankees-related
murals he’s painted have been of Roberto
Clemente, Reggie Jackson and
recently Aaron Judge.
Although, this exhibit focuses on
much more than some iconic baseball
faces.
Titled ‘From The Bronx-With
Love,’ it emphasizes some of the most
personal and authentic artwork that
captures the nature of the borough’s
creativity through music and culture.
With a mix of vibrant colors and
unique fonts, Trenier’s somewhat
‘cosmic’ style is displayed at its best
in a large scale portrait that expounds
“don’t let life get in the way of your
art,” in addition to many other works
that have been kept under wraps in
his workspace at the Andrew Freeman
Home on East 167th Street.
Some work that Trenier had completed
for the Bronx Zoo was put on
display as well.
Trenier’s exhibit will be open at
the Bronx Terminal Market with his
artwork changing roughly about every
two weeks until Saturday, September
14.
