BRONX TIMES REPORTER, J BTR UNE 28-JULY 4, 2019 69
BY JOANN SOHMERS
On Tuesday, June 18, I attended
a public meeting held
by the offi ce of the Deputy
Mayor for Housing and Economic
Development, the lead
agency, at the Villa Barone
Manor. Denise Pisoni, deputy
director of the Mayor’s Offi
ce of Environmental Coordination
presented us with a
Draft Scope for the Citywide
Ferry Service expansion to
Ferry Point Park. Also present
was Jennifer Rimmer, VP ,
planning department, of NYC
Economic Development Corp.
I wish to thank them for this
meeting.
A CEQR analysis will be
done, which is part of environmental
impact, including, but
are not limited to, neighborhood
character, construction,
natural resources, air quality,
noise, public health, and
transportation.
Public participation included
the following questions
and concerns.
Regarding the handicapped
using wheelchairs, etc. The
answer was only to say that
the ferry provides for those
using wheelchairs. I will say
it again, we need some kind of
transportation from the parking
lot to the ferry. Regarding
the park, a person stated that
the park is fi lled with garbage
and also concerns about the
bathrooms in the park. I believe
that the Parks Department
should also be at these
meetings. I was told that the
Parks Department is all for
the ferry coming to this location.
We have to know if they
will pave the parking lot,
clean up the area, maintain
the bathrooms, provide extra
security in anticipation for
many more people using the
park when the ferry service
starts in 2021.
Another issue that was
brought up again is the entrance
into the park and exit
out of the park. We do not want
cars, etc. exiting the park by
the way of Brush Avenue. The
exit should remain the same as
it is now which is via the ‘ring
road’. This is non negotiable.
Written comments on the
Draft Scope of Work may be
submitted until 5 p.m. on
July 1 by email, or by regular
mail to: Mayor’s Offi ce of
Environmental Coordination,
Attn: Denise Pisani, deputy
director, 253 Broadway, 14th
Floor, New York, NY. 10007 or

Point Civic Association.

Our guest speaker Captain
Natiw the commanding offi cer
