Burke, Monte, open Musculoskeletal Center
As part of the Montefi ore Health
System, Burke Rehabilitation Hospital
celebrated the opening of its new outpatient
hub for musculoskeletal care
located in the Hutchinson Metro Center
in the Bronx. The opening of the
new center was celebrated with a ribbon
cutting ceremony on June 11.
Burke’s highly-trained therapists
will help patients recover from sports
injuries, orthopedic surgery, back
pain and joint replacements, as well
as other conditions. Joining Burke on
the 10th fl oor of 1250 Waters Place is
The Center for Orthopedic Specialties
at Montefi ore, as well as Montefi ore
Spine Center specialty services.
“Our new facility in the Hutch
Metro Center really demonstrates
what is possible when we strategically
utilize the resources within the Montefi
ore Health System,” Burke president
and CEO Jeffrey Menkes said.
“With our therapy services directly
adjacent to Montefi ore’s specialty practices,
we are able to make accurate diagnoses
faster, hasten recovery and
improve the outcomes of our patients.
This is exactly what collaboration
within a health system is supposed to
look like.”
This new location is Burke’s second
outpatient therapy site in the Bronx
and the ninth outpatient site in Burke’s
network. A 10th location is scheduled
to open in White Plains in the near
future. Locations include: Yonkers-
Ridge Hill, Yonkers-Executive Plaza,
Armonk, Bronx-Westchester Avenue,
Mamaroneck, Purchase, Somers and
Burke Rehabilitation Hospital’s campus
in White Plains.

Burke Rehabilitation Hospital is a

‘50 Most Infl uential Clinical Executives’
list for his work in expanding
access to primary care services
while driving down costs.
Dr. Katz’ most successful initiatives
during his time as president
and CEO of the country’s largest
public healthcare system are
driven by the organizations overall
goals of strategic investment to aid
in transforming care and increasing
access.
Modern Healthcare’s ‘50 Most Infl
uential Clinical Executives’ program
honors physicians working
in the healthcare industry who are
deemed by their peers and an expert
panel to be the most infl uential in
terms of demonstrating leadership
and impact.
Dr. Katz was also recently recognized
by the Heritage Foundation for
Organizational Leadership for fundamentally
changing how healthcare is
delivered at an institution.

time, Dr. Katz has focused on advancing
the transformation of the public
health care system with numerous
new initiatives to expand access to
primary care services, reduce administrative
costs, invest in more
front-line clinical staff, and build fi -
nancial stability.
Previously, Dr. Katz was the director
of the Los Angeles County Health
Agency, an agency that combines
the Departments of Health Services,
Public Health, and Mental Health
into a single entity so as to provide
more integrated care and programming
within Los Angeles.
Before he came to Los Angeles Dr.
Katz was the director and health offi
cer of the San Francisco Department
of Health for 13 years. He is well
known for funding needle exchange,
creating Healthy San Francisco, outlawing
the sale of tobacco at pharmacies,
and winning ballot measures
for rebuilding Laguna Honda Hospital
and San Francisco General Hospital.
He is a graduate of Yale College
and Harvard Medical School. He
completed an internal medicine residency
at UCSF Medical School and
was an RWJ Clinical Scholar.
Dr. Katz is the Deputy Editor of
JAMA Internal Medicine, an elected
member of the National Academy of
Sciences (previously the Institute of
Medicine) and the recipient of the
Los Angeles County Medical Association
2015 Healthcare Champion of
the year.
