Spellman Senior Signs to
Play for Pace University
Shanice Sinclair of the Spellman Varsity basketball team and
current team captain recently signed to play next year for Pace
University in Pleasantville, NY. She attended Our Lady of Victory
Elementary School in Mt. Vernon and at Spellman has been point
guard on the Varsity team for three years. At both the Martin Luther
King Jr. Tournament and the Rose Classic, Shanice has earned
Most Valuable Player awards. Last year, under Coach Jane Morris,
she helped lead the Spellman Pilots to the New York State Catholic
School Championship, and is looking to repeat this year.

Yankees-Stonewall Scholarships To
Be Awarded In 2020 To Five New
York City Public School Students
Graduating Seniors May Apply
Online Through March 1
The New York Yankees today announced that for the second
straight year, the Yankees-Stonewall Scholars Initiative
will award scholarships to fi ve New York City Public School
seniors who have demonstrated academic achievement, a
commitment to equality and impactful support for the LGBTQ
community.
The initiative provides $50,000 worth of scholarships
through fi ve $10,000 college scholarships to be presented to
one student from each of the fi ve boroughs of New York City.
The scholarships are intended to allow these students the resources
to fulfi ll their educational and career goals.
All New York City public school seniors are eligible to
apply at schools.nyc.gov/lgbtq. The application will be open
until March 1, 2020.
The Yankees-Stonewall Scholars Initiative was created
in September 2018 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of
the Stonewall Inn uprising and celebrate the achievements
of New York City Public School students. In May 2019, the
Yankees, along with the Stonewall Inn and New York City
Department of Education, presented the initial class of fi ve
graduating seniors with scholarship awards at a ceremony
at the Stonewall Inn. The winners were: Francheska Colon of
the Bronx, Ashley Farrell of Staten Island, Hugh Goldstein of
Queens, Alex Rosado of Manhattan, and an anonymous student
from Brooklyn.
The selection process will again be conducted by the New
York City Department of Education in partnership with representatives
from the Yankees and the Stonewall Inn, and
the winners will be announced in the spring of 2020. Additionally,
recipients of the awards will be celebrated at a game
at Yankee Stadium during the 2020 season.

VTC (Velocity Track
Club) are truly Bless! This
was a long XC (cross country)
season, with our athletes
putting in a lot of miles
since August. On Saturday,
December 7th, 2019 we (VTC)
competed in the 2019 AAU
(Amateur Athletic Union)
XC National Championship
in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Each athlete received lovely
AAU knit hats, t-shirt and
championship bags. Medals
were given to the top 25 athletes
in each division / gender.
The top eight athletes
also received All American
patches and were presented
their medal on the podium.
There were approximately
1,697 athletes from across
the country competing for
the title “Best in the USA”!
VTC had eight athletes
make the trip and they all
performed well! We were
Bless with four medals and
two athletes made the podium
and received All American
patches. The following
athletes received All American
status: Bryce Hickman
took 7th place in the 6 years
old Boys 1000 meters race
and Sachin Ramharak took
8th place in the Boys 11 years
old 1.8 miles race. Medalist:
Lyon Arhigbu took 11th place
in the Girls 7 years old 1.2
miles race and Pierce Parker
took 10th place in the Boys
11-year-old 1.8 miles race.

Ethan Lee all performed
well and are national rank!
