Garifuna Intangible Heritage will
showcase the work of two self-taught
Garifuna artists, Pen Cayetano and
Isidra Sabio, whose brightly-colored
paintings and digital prints highlight
Garifuna culture, cultural expressions,
and daily life.
The Garifuna Beat!, a companion
photography exhibition in Casita
Maria’s Young Artist Gallery, will
depict the joyful self-expression of
the Garifuna Punta Dance Style.
Garifuna Intangible Heritage will
honor the 18th anniversary of UNESCO’s
proclamation of the Garifuna

Language, Music, and Dance as a
Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible
Heritage of Humanity. This keritage
consists of the intangible and
tangible aspects of the whole body
of cultural practices, resources and
knowledge systems developed, nurtured
and refi ned by Garifuna people,
and that are transmitted from
generation to generation as a crucial
component of their sense of identity
and continuity.

Free public events include a workshop,
¡ExpresARTE! Express Yourself
Through Garifuna Dance, on
Wednesday evenings beginning December
11, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.. Workshop
series on Garifuna dance styles,
led by acclaimed performer Luz F.
Soliz.
Celebrate the end of the workshop
with performances by ExpresARTE
participants and Soliz’s WABAFU
Garifuna Dance Theater; on Friday,
February 28, from 7 to 9 p.m., a community
performance will be free and
open to the public.

Bronx County Chorus
holiday concert, Dec. 8th
On Sunday, December 8, at 4 p.m.,
the Bronx County Chorus, directed
by Christian Aquino, will present
their winter program, ‘Christmas
Classics: from Handel to Hollywood,’
at First Lutheran Church, 3075 Baisley
Avenue.
Tickets are, in advance, $15 general
admission; $10 seniors and students.
Tickets are available at those
prices until midnight on Saturday,

Sunday, December 8, prices are
$20 general admission and $15 seniors
and students.
This spectacular program showcases
The Messiah, including ‘Hallelujah
Chorus,”’ by Handel and
memorable Hollywood holiday
movie music presented from great
holiday movies. This includes familiar
songs like ‘White Christmas,’
and others like ‘Polar Express,’ that
will become more unforgettable
over time.
Members are from Co-op City,
Westchester County, Parkchester,
Throggs Neck and all over this
area.
Interested in joining the Bronx
County Chorus? Tryouts are held
in mid-January. Check out the website

The First Lutheran Church is
accessible by bus (#Bx5 or Q50, or
car).
This chorus truly is the longest
running chorus in the Bronx, having
gotten its start in 1939.
Amber Care Care Assisted Living
Center, located on Mace Avenue,
again this year hosted the
Bronx Country Chorus’ December
outreach.
The holiday musical feast is a
potpourri of movie holiday classics
that will trigger smiles and remind
you of holiday memories.
In the spring, Bronx County celebrates
their 80th annual anniversary.
The Bronx County Chorus is
