AFC Rapid Soccer - Week 9 highlights
BY GRACE CERINI
BANTAMS
It was a bitter sweet day
for the Cestra’s Pizza gang.
Their fi nal game of the regular
season was set for an 11am
appointment with the purple
team from American Cleaners.
There would be no playoffs
this year for the Cestra’s but
the team looked quite different
from their fi rst game until
now. with great improvement.
The Cestra’s were missing
starting midfi elder Adriana
Rizzi and reserve Brandon Delgado.
But the rest of the team
picked up the slack. Xavier
Aponte started the fi rst half
in goal but saw little action
as the defense led by Aliana
Didimenico was solid. Alex
Rolas and #6 Madison De La
Cruz held tight and together
keeping the other team away.
Gianna Didimenico held her
midfi eld position sturdy, putting
in a good shift following
her goal last week.#3 Ava Vitale
earned a start at forward
and helped greatly running
back and forth. Her presence
disrupted quite a few build
ups from American Cleaners.
#30 Matthew Urquhart proved
again that he is lethal in front
of goal. He has scored in every
game this season and grabbed
another two. Alex joined him
on the score sheet by getting
a goal in the second half. It
was his fi rst and a great reward
for someone who accepted
the goalie role for most
of the season. Madison came
close to getting a goal from an
awarded penalty but unfortunately
struck the post from a
well hit shot. Max Cardi sealed
the game with nonstop energy
when his number was called.
He made key tackles and
clearances which protected
#32 Brahima Diallo. Brahima
helped out with his version
of goalkeeping in the second
half and although American
Cleaners were able to put two
passed him, he made enough
saves to secure the win. It was
a decent way to end the season
with the Cestra’s sporting
a 4-6 record. They had grown
as a team and had worked together
well. They worked hard
all season and it was awesome
to see them fi nish on a positive
note. Kudos to the parents
for bringing these kids every
week to be a part of this atmosphere
created by AFC Rapids.
The semifi nals and fi nals will
be played next week...
This was Spot On’s fi nal
game of the regular season
games against Ann Clair’s
and they fi nished hard.The
entire team played well with
some stand outs that deserve
mentioning. Nicolas Camino
played extremely well on the
midfi eld as well as in goalie.
Aiden Camino, Gabriel Deleon,
Nicolette Donavan and
Nico Markic played a strong
midfi eld. Dominick Ventola,
Madelyn Perrino and Julianna
Mosca played great
and each had an assist. Ryan
Faulker had two goals and
Aaron Piparo had his fi rst
scores with two goals as well.
An unbelievable end to an unbelievable
season, as they get
ready for the playoffs. Final
score 4 - 1 Spot On.

GIRLS MAJORS
Capital Shield Insurance
played Michael Anthony’s for
their fi nal game to determine
who would take fi rst place. It
was nail biting throughout
the game for both the girls and
their parents. A shout out to
Charlize Apunte as goalie during
the whole game who had
great saves for Capital Shield.
The pressure was on the defense
to shield Michael Anthony’s
from any goals. Defense
players Nina Karampimperis,
Angelica Rubino, Daniella
Mosca and Jade Haney fought
hard to keep the ball up the
fi eld, along with midfi elders
Emily Gutierrez, Neomi Gonzalez,
Emmie Rodrigz and Olivia
Lopez who stayed strong
on their opponents. Offensive
players Sia Karampimperis,
Jessica Dineen, Allison Conde
and Camila Loyo took many
shots on goal but were unsuccessful
as Michael Anthony’s
kept their defense strong keeping
the fi rst half at a 0-0 tie.
By the second half, forward
Sia Karampimperis found her
strength with a great assist by
Jessica Dineen to take the fi rst
goal of the game. The game
was intense as Capital Shield
had everything riding on this
game and were determined to
win. All the girls went into defense
mode but Michael Anthony’s
put the pressure on
and took a goal tying the game
1-1. Capital Shield knew they
had minutes left and their determination
paid off ending
the game with no other goals
against them. In the end the
girls cheered as they knew
they had just clinched fi rst
place. So proud of their teamwork,
dedication to the game
and showing up to the game,
ready to play hard. Go Capital
Shield Insurance!!
