 BY GEORGE HAVRANEK
 Our second half kickoff
 meeting was held on Wednesday,
  September 18. Keynote
 speaker, Councilman Mark
 Gjonaj captivated the packed
 house with strong messages
 of accountability, and unity.
 The councilman adeptly covered
 an array of relevant topics
 including the attrition
based loss of police offi cers
 in our 45th Precinct, illegal
 overnight storage of tractortrailers
 throughout the Community
 Board 10 footprint, the
 installation of crime cameras,
 new traffi c safety measures,
 and community cleanliness.
 His analytical dissections of
 antagonistic quality of life issues
 provoked a lengthy, spirited
 question and answer session
 with the captive audience.
 Once the dust settled, Councilman
 Gjonaj pledged to support
 our community and remains
a valued friend to the Spencer
 Estate community.
CB 10 is an often overlooked
 and under-appreciated
 community entity. Our CB
10 is one of the largest geographic
 community board
 districts in the borough of
 the Bronx. The board serves
 the communities of Pelham
 Bay, City Island, Spencer Estate,
  Country Club, Throggs
 Neck, Co-op City, Westchester
 Square and Zerega. It primarily
 consists of 1- to 3-family
 homes. However, it covers the
 largest housing cooperative in
New York State in Co-op City
and is home to a sizable public
housing stock in that of Middletown
 Plaza, Throggs Neck
 Houses and Randall-Balcom
 Houses. Despite their expansive
 territory and heavy work
load CB 10 always has time for
 the Spencer Estate community.
  We give a well-deserved
 applause of appreciation to the
 hard working individuals of
 our stellar CB 10.

  a mere two minutes can
 be the difference in successfully
 escaping a house fi re.
 Call (718) 931-1721 for registration
 / more information about
 these important community
 services or to contact Councilman

 address community needs.
Call (718) 892-2235 or drop by

 his profound efforts in
 our community’s successful
 battle against the #8 and
#24 bus route segments of the
 proposed MTA redesign. The
 Mike Benedetto and Mark
 Gjonaj political partnership is
a proven asset to the Spencer
 Estate community.
 Political leaders to gauge a
 community’s interest and fortitude
 use the attendances at
 local civic association meetings.
  The continued large
 turnouts show our elected offi
cials that we have the fortitude
 and resolve needed to
 confront adversity. It is important
 for our community to
 consistently build on this momentum.

 The next meeting of the
 Spencer Estate Civic Association

job in memory of him and
 our cause. A great turnout

 and we will never forget
 our fallen and always remind
our elected offi cials that our

job at ‘God Bless America’ as
Tom, but hey, they handed me
 the microphone.
