 BronxNet, borough’s  
 cable access provider,  
 celebrates 25th year

 One of the nation’s fi nest public access  
 television turns 25 this year!  
 BronxNet  TV  will  be  celebrating  
 the big 2-5 with a bang at the Marina  
 del Rey on Thursday, October 17.  
 The soon-to-be three studio network  
 will  be  honoring  Borough  President  
 Ruben Diaz, Jr., former borough president  
 Fernando Ferrer, and BronxNet  
 board member Madaha  Kinsey-Lamb  
 who is the executive director of the  
 Mindbuilders Creative Arts Center. 
 Diaz, who’s no stranger to BronxNet  
 will be receiving the ‘Quarter Century  
 Award’ for his pressing work with and  
 appearances on the television station.  
 BronxNet provides the studio space  
 at Lehman and Mercy colleges and  
 soon will provide an additional studio  
 with  podcasting  capabilities  on  149th  
 Street in the hub of the south Bronx.  
 The network also provides camera  
 equipment that can be taken into  
 the  fi eld, editing suites and training  
 classes, providing Bronx residents opportunities  
 few could afford.        
 In its 25-year time, BronxNet’s executive  
 director Michael Max Knobbe  
 has watched fi rsthand  the  growth  of  
 the network along with the borough.  
 “We’ve seen the Bronx become  
 a symbol of urban renewal in these  
 years,” Knobbe said, mentioning how  
 BronxNet has expanded from one to  
 six channels.  
 “Now the network has become a  
 multi-site, multimedia platform and  
 we’re nowhere near done growing  
 yet,” he continued.  
 During his tenure, Knobbe has also  
 seen many BronxNet alum move on to  
 pursue broadcast journalism in New  
 York.  
 He  listed  the many BronxNet  success  
 stories both current and in the  
 past 25 years starting with the very  
 popular Darlene Rodriguez , a  reporter  
 for NBC 4. 
 Currently Yeila Lluberres is doing  
 outstanding work for Spectrum  
 News 1 as a weekend anchor in addition  
 to her other reporter duties. She  
 came from the Dominican Republic to  
 the Bronx, becoming a BronxNet producer  
 and attending Lehman College.  
 Dean  Meminger  followed  a  similar  
 path, starting at BronxNet to fi nd success  
 at Spectrum New 1 as well.  
 Michael Thrower is currently in the  
 cutting room for FOX, handling much  
 of its content, while Jeremy Hutchens  
 has given MTV, VICE, and BET some  
 of its most unique stories as well.  
 Jhelsy Paula has commanded the  
 news ‘en Espanol’ for Telemundo after  
 coming from BronxNet. Another success  
 story is the Emmy Award winning  
 news  director  Michael  Leon  of  
 BronxNet and later News 12.
