One Book One Bronx presents Girl in the Mirror
After a summer break, One Book
One Bronx returns with Girl in the Mirror:
Three Generations of Black Women in
Motion by Natasha Tarpley. In this vivid
family memoir told in the voices of three
generations of women, writer Natasha
Tarpley sets her own migrations in the
context of a long line of African-Americans’
stories.
At the BronxArtSpace, 305 East
140th Street on Tuesdays, 6:30 to 8
p.m., September 10, 17, 24, October 1
and 8.
At Casita Maria Center for Arts & Education,
928 Simpson Street, Wednesdays,
6:30 to 8 p.m., September 11, 18,
25, October 2, and 9.
During September, One Book One
Bronx will expand to a second location
giving readers the option to join the discussion
on Tuesdays or Wednesdays.

PEP for Seniors in Parkchester is
holding its fi nal Community Tag Sale for
the year on Saturday, September 14,
from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Metropolitan
Oval (Metropolitan Avenue and Unionport
Road) around the fountain. Vendors
will be selling new and used items,
housewares, antiques, clothing and toys.
Rain date is Sunday, September 15.
“We are very excited to offer our third
and fi nal tag sale of the year,” says PEP
for Seniors program director Nicole Tambini.
“Our vendor spaces are sold out
but that’s good news for shoppers, who
can visit all 75 vendors. Our vendors offer
a variety of interesting items. Come
take a look. We will also have materials
about PEP for Seniors for those who
are interested in learning more about
our services. Our tag sales are our biggest
fundraiser and help us to continue
providing programs for Parkchester seniors
so that they remain vital and age
in place.”
The tag sales benefi t the PEP for
Seniors NORC program. The vendor
fees go directly towards providing quality
programming for their senior citizens.
The Parkchester Enhancement Program
provides nursing and social services
along with educational and recreational
opportunities for seniors 60+
living in Parkchester, enabling seniors to
One Book, One Bronx returns with Girl in the Mirror, at Casita Maria Center for Arts and Education.

Circle Time: Children from birth to 3
years old and their caregivers can enjoy
stories, songs, and fi nger plays while
spending time with other toddlers. Limit
of 15 children with their caregivers. Craft
included. Every Tuesday from 11 to
11:45 a.m.
Play-Doh Time: Have fun exploring
sensory dough as well as making your
own creations with Playdough by kneading,
rolling and molding it! Ages 2 to 5.
Playdough does contain wheat products.

Writing Aloud Workshop: Created
by N.Y. Writers Coalition in 2003, the
Writing Aloud Reading Series unites
NYWC’s community of writers and activists

Bookstore, and the Museum of Contemporary
African Diasporan Arts (Mo-
CADA), stories that were once silenced
are heard by new audiences in New
