U.S. News & World Report in its latest
annual report of high performing (Best
Hospitals) hospitals edition, recognized
NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln for a
third consecutive year for Heart Failure,
the chronic, progressive condition that
affects the pumping power of heart muscles.
The U.S. News Best Hospitals methodologies
are largely based on objective
measures such as risk-adjusted survival
and discharge-to-home rates, volume,
quality of nursing and other care-related
indicators. In its 2019-2020 Best Hospitals
rankings and ratings, U.S. News evaluated
more than 4,500 medical centers
nationwide. Seven of the NYC Health +
Hospitals facilities were recognized as
high performing in several categories, including
Lincoln and Jacobi (both for heart
failure) in the Bronx. A ranking of “High
Performing” indicates signifi cantly better
than the nationwide average.
Lincoln Hospital continues its laser focus
on care, but recognition that the facility
is on the right path by U.S. News &
World Report is welcomed.

At a time when our city is
experiencing a dangerous and
unacceptable anti-police climate
our situation has been
made more complicated by the
fact that the 45th Precinct is
losing nine police offi cers. Our
precinct is among the largest
in the city and we should be receiving
more, not less, police offi
cers.
In the past, offi cers lost by
attrition were often replaced.
Unfortunately, there are no
plans to replace these offi cers.
This is an intolerable situation
that affects everyone in
our community and we need
to make it known that we will
never accept this without a
fi ght.
Your civic associations are
working together and we need
you and your neighbors to get
involved. Please go to change.
org and sign the petition. Then
tell everyone you know to go
to this link so that we may tell
the powers that be that we will
not accept cutbacks to our 45th
Precinct. The link is http//
Chang.it/LngZSpBV. Go there
today.
We have invited Captain
Fraser to attend our September
meeting. Unfortunately, he cannot
stop the cutbacks as that is
done by the mayor and the City
Council. Therefore, we have invited
Councilman Mark Gjonaj
to attend as a guest speaker as
well. We need to fi ght until every
offi cer is replaced.
Support and respect our police
offi cers.
