It was a blazing scene in
Morris Park when a dozen
school buses caught fi re overnight
on the morning of Friday,
August 23.
The FDNY received a call
around at about 1:09 a.m. for
a mini school bus that was on
fi re at Logan Bus Company’s
bus storage lot at 1616 Stillwell
Avenue, just two weeks
before school came back into
session.
The single bus that became
engulfed quickly spread
to other mini school buses in
the fl eet of roughly 150 yellow
vehicles.
Although the harrowing
blaze only took the FDNY over
an hour to douse, New York’s
Bravest sent out a dozen units
with a total of 60 fi refi ghters
to battle the fl ames.
The bus storage yard sits
in a mostly industrial area so
the overnight blaze resulted
in no residential injures according
to the FDNY.
Although mischief was initially
suspected in the case of
the fi re, the FDNY later concluded
that the cause of the
fi re was the result of an electrical
issue rather than ar-
son.
The fi re department came
to that conclusion after fi re
marshals reviewed surveillance
tapes.
Logan Bus Company, Inc.,
which has two other bus yards
in Hunts Point and Castle Hill,
did not return request to comment
on the incident or the
cause of the accidental fi re.
Logan owns and maintains
a fl eet of over 2,000 buses and
mini-wagons.
