Union Members Host Back to School Drive
On Tuesday, August 27, union members from District Council 9, IUPAT and Laborers’ Local
79 distributed approximately 150 book bags fi lled with school supplies at their Back to
School Drive at the Mary Mitchell Family & Youth Community Center.

Chess Club Hosts Chess,
Basketball Tourney
Young Kings & Queens Chess Club and BTW presented a
two-day chess and basketball event on Saturday, August
24 and Sunday, August 25. Over 300 people attended
Saturday’s semi-fi nals and over 400 people attended the
championship game on Sunday including Senator Jamaal
Bailey and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie. Over 95 men
and women, ages 4 to 72-years-old, participated in the
