Frank Reyes will perform at Lehman Center

Frank Reyes, one of the best-known bachata artists in teh world, will perform at Lehman
Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, June 29.

Arts and Goya Foods will present the debut
performance at Lehman Center of El
Principe de la Bachata, Frank Reyes, on
Saturday, June 29, at 8 p.m. In this special
concert for all the fans of bachata,
Grammy-nominated Frank Reyes, with his
exceptional bachata rhythm and incredible
singing talent, will perform his greatest
hits.
Lehman Center for the Performing Arts
is on the campus of Lehman College/CUNY
at 250 Bedford Park Boulevard West. Tickets
for Frank Reyes on Saturday, June 29,

For 20 years, BAAD! The Bronx Academy
of Arts and Dance, has presented
works that are empowering to women, people
of color and LGBTQ people. The organization
continues its newest program the
TransVisionaries Performance Series, a
fi rst-ever, Bronx live performance series
featuring transgender and GNC (gender
non-conforming artists) in free, open to the
public performances in south Bronx restaurants
that are turned into one-night art
centers. The series kicks off on Tuesday,
June 25, at 7 p.m. at the Mott Haven Bar
& Grill and will feature an evening hosted
by the legendary Javon Egyptt and feature
short fi lms and performance by Egyptt and

Brazilian Modern: The Living Art of Roberto
Burle Marx, through September 29:
Celebrating infl uential Brazilian modernist
artist, landscape architect, and plant explorer
and conservationist Roberto Burle
Marx, NYBG’s largest botanical exhibition
ever is also the fi rst to combine a horticultural
tribute to Burle Marx’s design work,
featuring lush gardens, with a curated gallery
of his vibrant paintings, drawings, and
textiles, revealing deep connections between
his artistic practice and his commitment
to environmental conservation. Engaging
public programming showcases the
sights and sounds of Brazil and its lively
contributions to music and dance evoking
Rio de Janeiro, the “Cidade Maravilhosa”
(“Wonderful City”) that Roberto Burle Marx
called home and inspired his life and work.
Brazilian Modern After Hours, Saturdays,
June 29, July 13, July 27, and August
10; 6 to 8 p.m.: Unwind during special
extended summer hours and make the
most of the late sunsets while taking in the
Brazilian Modern exhibition. Burle Marx’s
home, the Sítio, was famously known as a
place where friends, colleagues, botanists,
artists, poets, and other cultural fi gures
from around the world gathered and socialized,
and the spirit of that space comes to
life during these evenings at NYBG. Sip a
caipirinha, the national drink of Brazil; enjoy
the rhythms of Rio de Janeiro during
acoustic guitar performances; and explore
the lush tropical plant life of Brazil as the
days transition to early summer evenings.
Brazilian Modern After Hours are included
with All-Garden Pass admission.

of the Conservatory Plaza.
Anthony Lanni; Saturday, June 29: As
a solo performer, the New York City-based
jazz guitarist and member of American
Samba band Os Clavelitos, specializes in
traditional Brazilian samba, bossa nova,
baiao, and bolero, with works by Walter
Burle Marx, Baden Powell, Vinicius de Moraes,
Antonio Carlos Jobim, Milton Nascimento,
and others.
Wind down and enjoy drink specials
featuring Brazil’s national drink, the caipirinha,
made with cachaça, sugar, and lime;
the guava and pineapple caipiroska, a refreshing

European, and African rhythms, from jazz

PubliQuartet; Saturday, June 29: Dedicated
to presenting new works, PQ spans
genres, expanding the techniques and aesthetic
of the traditional string quartet with
an innovative approach to contemporary
classical, jazz, and world chamber music.
Selected as the Metropolitan Museum’s
2016–17 MetLiveArts Ensemble-in-Residence,
the group also received Chamber
Music America’s 2015 ASCAP Adventurous
Programming Award. Recent career
highlights include performances at Lincoln
Center, Wolf Trap, Carnegie Hall, Newport
Jazz, and The Late Show with Stephen
Colbert.

Everett Children’s Adventure Garden: Kids
channel their innate curiosity and creativity
and as they learn about the native plants
of Brazil and become inspired plant lovers
and designer-artists like Burle Marx:
in the Children’s Adventure Garden, they
can start their own indoor garden by potting
up a fantastic philodendron plant, design
a playful sculpture inspired by the bold
colors and geometric shapes used by Burle
Marx, and compare plants growing in the
Bronx and Brazil to understand more about
plant diversity.
Everett Children’s Adventure Garden
All-Day Exploration ongoing, 10 a.m. to
5:30 p.m.: Children of all ages can explore
the wonders of science and nature in our
outdoor 12-acre garden. Climb the boulders
and view the landscape below from
your high perch, dash through Beth’s Maze,
and check out the cattails and lily pads at
Habitat Hub.
Edible Academy Fresh from the Garden
Tastings through November 3: Saturdays

New recipes featuring plants grown in the
Edible Academy are offered each week.

History of NYBG Walking Tour, Saturday,
June 29, 2:30 p.m.: Join in for a tour
of historically signifi cant sites within the
Garden’s 250 acres. Receive a fascinating
overview of the Garden’s history and its importance
as a vital NYC cultural destination
since 1891.
Ross Conifer Arboretum Tour, Saturday,
June 29, 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.: The
Arthur and Janet Ross Conifer Arboretumis
a historic, 15-acre collection of towering
pines, elegant spruces, and mountain fi rs
from around the world. These irreplaceable
trees were among the fi rst planted at
the Garden, some as far back as the early
1900s. Join us for a tour of these exquisite
specimens.
Native Plant Garden Tour, Sunday,
June 30, 11 a.m.: The Native Plant Garden
houses a diverse collection of ferns, perennials,
shrubs, and trees native to the northeastern
United States. Join us for a guided
tour through these re-created habitats.
Notable Trees Tour, Sunday, June 30,
12:30 p.m.: What makes a tree notable? It
could be its size, its bark, its uses, or a variety
of other features. Some of our trees
have been here since before the Garden
was formally established in 1891.
Thain Family Forest Tour, Sunday, June
30, 2:30 p.m.: Experience the beauty of the
Garden’s 50-acre Forest on this one-hour
walking tour with a Tour Guide. You’ll learn
facts about the trees, history, geology, and
ecology of this original, uncut woodland.

Come together to read Faith Ringold’s
Tar Beach and imagine fl ying over
places that hold a special meaning. Then
layer stiffened, wool-felt shapes to create
a magical atmosphere to hold you on your
spectacular journey, defying Earth’s gravity!
Free, and admission to the grounds is
free until noon.
Saturday, July 6: Gallery Tour: Tour
Glyndor Gallery with Wave Hill’s Curatorial
Fellow or Gallery Greeter to get an insider’s
view of current exhibitions. The exhibition
Here We Land features three former Winter
Workspace artists, Camille Hoffman, Maria
Hupfi eld and Sara Jimenez, who return to
explore narratives about contested space
that draw on personal and cultural touch
points in their immersive installations. In
the Sunroom, Amir Hariri creates sculptural
installations constructed of wood,
brick and other building materials—along
with a wall drawing—that connect to his architectural
research to the Bronx and Wave
Hill. In the Sun Porch, Geoffrey Owen Miller
suspends transparent, upside down sculptures
of fl ora and fauna—inspired by Wave
Hill—from the ceiling over sheets of blackmirrored
glass. Visitors see prismatic refl
ections of the hanging plants and animals
in upright positions in the glass. Free with
admission to the grounds.
Sunday, July 7: Yoga in the Garden: On
Sundays through July. Classes are led by
certifi ed Yoga Haven instructors. All levels
welcome. Bring a mat and be on time.
Sunday, July 7: Garden Highlights Walk:
Join a Wave Hill Garden Guide for a public
tour of seasonal garden highlights. Free
