BRONX TIMES REPORTER, APR. 8-14, 2022
BXR
Bronx, NY) Small businesses
around the Bronx, and the city
at large, have continued to face a
seemingly never-ending series of
challenges as they recover from
the many blows of the COVID-19
pandemic. To aid businesses in
combating these issues - from
loss of foot traffi c, to legal and/
or fi nancial issues, the need for
digital upgrades, and help avoiding
city violations and fi nes - the
New Bronx Chamber of Commerce
announced it is adding
three new Fellows to its Small
Business “special forces” outreach
team.
“During what we hope are
the fi nal days of a waning pandemic,
it’s important to keep
investing in our city’s small
businesses so they can not only
survive, but thrive, in a postpandemic
economy,” said Lisa
Sorin, Bronx Chamber President.
“So many small business
owners are still struggling, and
we salute our colleagues in the
5 Boro Chamber Alliance whose
outreach teams - along with ours
- have reached nearly 30,000 businesses
city-wide since the launch
of the Small Business Resource
Network in October 2020. We
look forward to increasing that
number even more, with an emphasis
on providing in-depth
guidance and support through
the additional efforts of our new
Fellows.”
These Fellows - one specifi -
cally to cater to restaurant and
hospitality-focused small businesses,
and two to provide techfocused
support in addition to

all-encompassing resource navigation
for a broad array of business
types - will join an existing
team of two business support
specialists, signing on for a yearlong
engagement with the Bronx
Chamber to further the objectives
of the Small Business Resource
Network (SBRN). SBRN
is a comprehensive approach to
strengthening New York City’s
economy and accelerating the
recovery of small businesses impacted
by COVID-19. The publicprivate
partnership includes service
delivery by the fi ve borough
Chambers of Commerce with
support from the Partnership
for NYC and NYC Economic Development
Corporation, and is
funded by the Peter G. Peterson
Foundation with additional support
from the NYC Council discretionary
funding and the NYC
Cleanup Corps initiative.
The outreach team vets and
prioritizes businesses to assist
(particularly businesses in distressed
communities who have
a need for more hands-on support);
diagnoses problems facing
a small business and determine
needs; and identifi es
available services (e.g. technology
vendors, legal and fi nancial
advisors, etc.). The fi nal step:
connecting the small business
to specifi c resources available
through the Small Business
Resource Network, a centralized
digital repository of free
and low-cost small business resources
that is dynamically updated.
Referrals are also made
for NYC Small Business Services
& Bronx Chamber in-house
M/WBE certifi cation support,
as well as to suitable Chamber
members and other partners.
Small businesses who need
assistance can visit smallbiz.nyc
to sign up for the initial consultation,
which is free; they may
also call 718.828.3900 or email
