When asked why the 30th Ave Business Association is putting so much energy into a restaurant week—when they advocate for nearly 1500 businesses in the area—Arcabascio explains, “it’s the trickle down effect. Most restaurants see a wave of customers three times throughout the day, and we all eat several meals each day. We may only get our haircut or go shopping every few weeks or months. Bringing business to the restaurants gets people walking past their neighboring businesses, as well.” From 21st St to 49th St, participating establishments ranging from high-end restaurants, to gastropubs and casual cafes and eateries, will offer deals and discounts to customers. It’s an ideal time for Astorians – in fact, all New Yorkers – to try the diverse foods featured throughout the neighborhood. Unlike Manhattan’s restaurant week, there is no universal set prix fixe necessarily, allowing each establishment to decide what specials and deals they might like to feature on their own, that best showcases their offerings. As John Valentin, a member of The 30th Avenue Business Association who is helping organize the event, says, “there are a lot of new restaurants opening up, and there is something for everybody on 30th Ave.” Gus Lambropoulos, Vice President of The 30th Avenue Business Association, adds, “People from all over the world should experience Astoria at least once!” And what better time Pita Pan than during Restaurant Week?
