FOOD Viva La Comida! 2013 If there was ever any doubt that Elmhurst/Jackson Heights is one of the most vibrant pockets of cultural diversity in the city, that argument was joyously laid to rest this past Friday as thousands of visitors gathered on 82nd Street between Roosevelt and Borden to celebrate this year’s Viva La Comida Festival. A food, music, culture, and craft festival, Viva La Comida magnetically drew together vendors, food trucks, artists, and performers showcasing everything from arepas and monolithic tortas, to Venezuelan street food, Himalayan momos, Indian curries, and Irish specialties. From dance competitions to an interactive street fair, to colorful pop-up stands amidst the established storefronts of the street. Organized by the 82nd Street Partnership—with food trucks chosen by local street food guru, Jeff Orlick—the festival was a delicious success. Here are some images in cased you missed it. 26 | BOROMAG.COM | OCTOBER 2013
