they want the tapas bar to be a place for
these families to come to.
“Astoria has a lot of young families,”
Khamcy said. “And that’s what we cater to
right now. We have kids in the backyard. We
have coloring books. We entertain the kids
so the parents can have a good time.”
The Social already has a reputation for being
fresh, not only in terms of their ingredients
but also by welcoming change in their
menu, their art and their views on how to
best serve their community. While Manhattan
may often be considered the go-to spot
on the weekend, Khamcy wants Astorians to
see that an amazing experience can be right
in their own backyard — especially under the
pink lights of The Social’s backyard.
“I want to bring something new and
bring some new people to Astoria as the
go-to spot,” Khamcy said. “Instead of going
to the city, I want them to come to Astoria.”
