BRADLEY HAWKS editor-in-chief Dear Western Queens, Though our borough has already celebrated our independence with a gorgeous display of fireworks over Astoria Park, we take this entire month to demonstrate our gratitude. I could not be more honored to call such a profoundly diverse neighborhood my home. Now, we are steps closer to equality for everyone in law, and hopefully one day in practice. I celebrate everything that makes each of us boldly unique. Our diversity is on colorful display in the urban art of the Welling Court Mural Project, to which we pay homage in this issue. We celebrate the creativity of local filmmakers and artists, and we sample exceptional pizzas from Rockaway Beach, as well as our own backyard. Artistry is everywhere, even in the dishes we savor. We are fortunate to be the home of Mu Ramen, and we take a look at some of their offerings now available at lunch. We even satiate our sweet tooth cravings with some healthier ice cream alternatives at Sweet Jane’s.
