34 I BOROMAG.COM I JUNE 2016 EXPLORE YOUR BORO Forest Hills Stadium www.newyorkpops.org www.foresthillsstadium.com On July 7, 2016, The New York Pops will return to its new summer home, Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, for a program starring Tony nominees Megan Hilty and Matthew Morrison. After a wildly successful outing at the open-air venue in summer 2015, The New York Pops is proud to return to Queens with a full orchestra. The concert will also continue the expanded version of the orchestra’s Kids in the Balcony program, offering 1,000 children an opportunity to attend and learn about live music for free. Fatty’s Café 45-17 28th Ave. www.fattysastoria.com A simple blue box lights up above Fatty's Cafe, a restaurant with a storefront that indicates not even a hint of the oasis waiting beyond the front doors. Inside, you are likely to find an eclectic myriad of Astorians most likely chatting casually over a mojito with Suzanne or Fernando, the couple who own and run this off-the-beaten-path gem. Absolute must-try dishes are the empanadas, the decadent contraband chicken and the tres leches. Oh, and don’t forget one of their exceptional mojitos. Flushing, Queens Take the 7 train to the end of the line at Main Street in Flushing for one of the most vibrant concentrations of Asian culture in this hemisphere. Be instantly whisked onto the streets of Hong Kong, like being sucked into some enormously strong Pacific rip current. Observe an entire block of butchers with whole ducks glistening in the windows, followed by noodle shops, bakeries, grocery stores and markets. Go with just a few bucks and an open mind, and you won’t be disappointed.
