EXPLORE YOUR BORO 22 | BOROMAG.COM | JUNE 2016 Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden 29-19 24th Ave. www.bohemianhall.com Often imitated but never equaled, this beer garden is the Astoria original. This outdoor space feels like grown-up summer camp, where you can savor burgers and brats from the grill, or order Czech favorites from the main kitchen like pierogi or goulash with dumplings, and then wash it all down with a pitcher of Hoegaarden. Few things whisk you away from the bustling metropolis like a good ol’ night at this landmark biergarten. The Bonnie 29-12 23rd Ave., Astoria www.thebonnie.com One of the best patios in Astoria is decked out with reclaimed New York cobbles and custom mahogany tables. With seating that accommodates close to 100 people, the garden is an extension of The Bonnie— which has rapidly become not only the source of some of the neighborhood’s most wondrously intoxicating cocktails and delectable fare, but a hotspot of Astoria’s social scene. “The neighborhood bar is at the core of who we are,” co-owner Michael Krawiec says. “You can come in from anywhere around the world, and the bartender will introduce you to the people sitting next to you. People come to New York and don’t know anyone, but come here and find a community.” The Brass Owl 36–19 Ditmars Blvd. www.thebrassowl.com This bountiful little boutique has blossomed into one of the must-visit spots on the boisterously busy Ditmars Boulevard. Not only are the shelves stocked with some of the most enticing selections of shoes, jewelry and whimsical fashions around, but this sweet little space is often home to rare pop-up shops. Owner Nicole Panettieri is an advocate of everything Queens, which is evident through her support of local artists and craftspeople.
