so it’s just about getting people thinking about
movies and getting in that mindset.”
After Walters checked me in, he gave me a
Sauced Cinema card, which gets you a drink
prize after you go to 10 events. But guests can
earn more points if they buy Sauced Swag, like
a T-shirt or sweatshirt that has Sauced Cinema’s
logo. The emblem is inspired by the “Jurassic
Park” movie logo, but the T-rex is holding a
mug of beer — or a box of popcorn, depending
on the viewer’s interpretation.
The logo definitely has nostalgic value for
Walters.
“The first movie I remember seeing in a theater
was Jurassic Park,” Walters said. “I’ll never
forget the feeling of being scared but excited
watching Jeff Goldblum on the back of the
truck being chased by the T-rex. Even from a
young age, watching the lights go down, the
magic of being in the theater — it’s really exciting.”
When Walters started Sauced Cinemas four
years ago, he called it Movie Mondays and
held it at a bar in the East Village, where he
was the host of a live Japanese game show.
The bar’s owner had an opening on Monday
nights, and Walters made a suggestion for a
movie night, which ended up having great
turnouts.
The event briefly took place at a bar in
Brooklyn as well before coming to Walter’s
