5. Seek out help
According to Giuggioloni, people
who suffer from mental health issues
vary in symptoms, family support,
strengths, access to mental
health services and awareness into
the disorder, affecting how they
handle mental health. Please seek
professional help if you have trouble
functioning daily or suicidal
thoughts.
“A lesson for all of us is to identify
when we need help. It is imperative
to look for a mental health professional
if you cannot overcome any
mental health symptoms by yourself.
Looking for help is not a sign
of weakness or ‘craziness.’ Looking
for help in any case is a sign of selfawareness
and open-mindedness,”
Giuggioloni said.
Many mental health experts in western
Queens are accepting new patients
like Koblenz (drkoblenz.com)
and Giuggioloni (grgtherapy.com).
Outpatient mental health agencies
are also offering psychiatry and
psychotherapy services with sliding
scale fees for those without insurance.

6. Remind yourself
this isn’t forever
When you have been landlocked
for the past several
months and haven’t seen the sun
in weeks, it feels like it will never
end. We are here to tell you that
this isn’t forever.
“Know that there is an end and
it’s not going to be like this forever.
Figure out your triggers — is it hopelessness,
is it anxiety? Write down
your challenges and learn what
your hurdles are,” Koblenz said.
Try journaling about what you
are grateful for or what you're
looking forward to in the future.
Local shops like Lockwood, Gift
Box and Astoria Bookshop carry
a variety of journals and planners,
some even made expressly
for showing gratitude.
