Animal OPS at JFK Airport Stakeholders meeting 9/22
The ARK at JFK Airport
is a unique animal facility
serving the import and export
of horses, small animals
and birds.
At any given day there are
animals of all kinds arriving
at the facility and most recently
the Ark has become a
short term holding area for
some of the thousands of dogs
being imported from around
the world for sale or adoption
by people looking for a pet.
According to Elizabeth
Schuette, Managing Director
of the Ark, “The ARK at
JFK is an animal health, reception
and quarantine facility
dedicated to improving
the welfare of in-transit animals

City, State and Federal government
agencies, including
NYC and NYS Department of
Health, USDA, CDC, FWS as
well as TSA and CBP in their
efforts to ensure the health
of imported animals and prevent
the spread of animal
borne diseases to other animals
or humans. The ARK
provides ground handling
services for animals within
JFK and coordinates pet
(AVI) shipments on behalf of
retail customers and other
pet shippers.”
The Port Authority will
be having a stakeholders virtual
meeting on September

of service that Port and the
Ark provide.
“The Port Authority of
New York and New Jersey
pursues the continuous improvement
of our airport facilities
and procedures in
order to facilitate our customers’
needs while meeting
our requirements for safe,
secure and efficient airport
operations. We are seeking
the views of our stakeholders
regarding animal handling
operations and processes at
JFK Airport and the animal
handling facility. Your input
will provide us with an understanding
of a customer’s
perspective on the progress
we have made in animal handling
services over the past 5
years and provide direction
on where improvements may
be considered.
To that end we have prepared
a survey and will be
holding a virtual stakeholder
input webinar on September
22, 2020 @3:00 pm.
Some of the questions in
the survey included:’
-What type of animal handling
do you engage in?

conducting animal handling
services through JFK?

animal handling have you
seen in past 5 years.

handling experience
through JFK such as cleanliness,
security,equipment,
and facility services provided.

critical to your business.
