Airports 9-11 Memorial
Remberances-Never Forget
The JFK Airport community celebrated 9-11
at the administration building at JFK where
the impact of the attack was felt after the
destruction at the World Trade Center. Some
of the current JFK and LaGuardia workers were
running for their lives during the attacks with
many having friends and loved ones lost during
the following minutes. This memorial service is
close to the hearts of the airport community as
37officers of the Port Authority Police and 50
Port Authority civilians and coworkers died on
that day.
Due to the Covid virus, only a small number
of participants were allowed at the live memorial
service but many others were able to watch via
a web stream.
Members of the Port Authority, the JFK
Airport Chamber of Commerce, federal and
local agencies and religious leaders were on
hand to speak or show support of this 4th
annual tradition at JFK Airport. Names of the
deceases from American Airlines, United and
the Port Authority were read, the Memorial bell
rung to signify the two moments of the tower
collision and Eva Boyce-Leonard again sang for
the gathering.
BothLaGuardia and Newark held their own
services as well at Port Authority downtown
Manhattan.
