CDC modifies rules Int’l quarantine lifted
The CDC previously recommended
international travelers
quarantine for 14 days after visiting
overseas destinations or arriving
in areas with a high number of confirmed
coronavirus cases, but that
has changed.
According to the CDC’s official
website, the mandatory quarantine
portion of the order has been lifted,
with travelers being advised to follow
the same protocols people should be
following on a daily basis anyway.
CDC updated rules:
As the COVID-19 pandemic
continues, the United States Government
(USG) is innovating and
taking a new approach to help
keep international air passengers
healthy. The new, more effective
strategy focuses on the continuum
of travel and the individual passenger,
including pre-departure and
post-arrival education, efforts to develop
a potential testing framework
with international partners, and
illness response. This strategy is
consistent with the current phase of
the pandemic and more effectively
protects the health of the American
public.
Beginning September 14, 2020,
the USG will removed requirements
for directing all flights carrying
airline passengers arriving
from, or recently had a presence
in, certain countries to land at one
of 15 designated airports and halt
enhanced entry health screening
for these passengers. CUnited
States Government resources will
instead be dedicated to more effective
mitigation efforts that focus on
the individual passenger, including:
pre-departure, in-flight, and
post-arrival health education for
passengers; robust illness response
at airports; voluntary collection of
contact information from passengers
using electronic means; potential
testing to reduce the risk of
travel-related transmission of the
virus that causes COVID-19 and
movement of the virus from one location
to another; country-specific
risk assessments to assist passengers
in making informed decisions
about travel-related risk; enhancing
training and education of partners
in the transportation sector
and at United States ports of entry
to ensure recognition of illness
and immediate notification to CDC;
and post-arrival passenger recommendations
for self-monitoring and
precautions to protect others, with
enhanced precautions, including
staying home to the extent possible
for 14 days for people arriving from
high-risk destinations.

XpresCheck opened its second
metro NY Covid 19 testing
facility at Newark International
airport on September
8th at Terminal B departures
level. CEO Doug Salzman said
this is an ongoing effort to enhance
safety measures at its
facilities and ensure that airport
workers have convenient
access to testing, a new XpresCheck
COVID-19 testing facility
has opened at Terminal
B at Newark Liberty International
Airport (EWR). “We
are thrilled to be launching
in Newark Liberty International
Airport, our second
XpresCheck testing facility
in the NY Metro area. We are
also hopeful that we can bring
XpresCheck to additional U.S.
airports over time, leveraging
our learnings to date in setting
up and administering a
testing facility so that we can
do our part to keep safe those
who work in the airline industries
as well as travelers.”
The EWR testing site is a
new modular site constructed
on Level 3 in Terminal B. It
provides nine separate testing
rooms and both JFK and
EWR capable of conducting
both COVID-19 testing and antibody
testing. These services
will be available to all airport
employees, including airline
employees, contractors and
workers, concessionaires and
their employees, TSA officers,
and U.S. Customs and Border
Protection (CBP) agents.
Both antibody testing and
polymerase chain reaction
(PCR) testing are available
on-site, and the tests are sent
to outside laboratories. All insurance
plans are accepted
outside of network and all information
will remain private
and HIPAA-compliant. The
JFK facility is found on the
main arrivals area in Terminal
4 with a similar look and
products at=s those in EWR.
In its initial phase, testing
is available to EWR terminal
employees, airline employees,
and airport workers through
an expanded contract with
XpresSpa, the parent company
of XpresCheck. The new
facility is screening up to 350
airport employees per day.
Following the initial launch
period, testing at EWR’s XpresCheck
site will be made available
to passengers.
“Across the agency, we
have employed various preventive
measures to ensure
the safety of travelers and
airport personnel and are
continually exploring ways to
further enhance these measures,”
said Kevin O’Toole,
Port Authority Chairman.
“We remain committed to implementing
additional measures
and policies, as well as
expanding and exploring various
pilots, such as this new
on-airport testing site, to further
safeguard those at our facilities.”
XpresCheck, which began
as a pilot at John F. Kennedy
International Airport,
was one of the first COVID-19
testing locations at a U.S. airport.
The JFK site, which is
managed by JFK-IAT and
XpresSpa, is now open to passengers
in addition to airport
employees for testing.
“Our airports are working
hard to support the return of
air travel to pre-COVID levels
and making sure our customers
and employees feel safe and
confident when they come to
one of our airports,” said Huntley
A. Lawrence, Port Authority
Aviation Director. “This
testing site, which is also an
example of our commitment to
better serving our customers
and employees, builds on our
existing measures to improve
the customer journey in every
way possible.”
