The JFK Redevelopment
Community Advisory Council
(Council) met for the 3rd time
in full=strength to a packed
hall of attendees at the Linden
Seventh Day Adventist
Church on July 8 to share the
updates and give news of the
JFK Redevelopment with the
entire impacted community.
Co-chaired by both Congressman
Meeks and Queens
Boro President Melinda Katz,
investors and members of the
Council shared reports on redevelopment
activities including
dates for important nearterm
opportunities. Melinda
Katz personally thanked the
Port Authority and stressed
the importance of this gathering.

for the community. She said a
there is generally a lot of talk
and then nothing happens but
Port has risen to the occasion
on this project.” Look at the
hundreds of people that have
shown up for the job fairs.”
Congressman Meeks
stressed the importance of the
redevelopment project. He said
that everyone has to sacrifice
their time, and work together
in lockstep, arm-in-arm. We
are Looking for that to happen
here.” he emphasized.
Key dates in the redevelopment
are:
Fall 2019-T1 & T6 Leases
finalized. American Airlines
begins construction
2020-JFK environmental
approval. New T1& T6 ground
breaking.
2022-American Airlines expansion
completion
2923-New gate openings at
T1 & T6
2025-JFK Airport completion
The presentations were
lead by the investors of Terminal
One, which include the
4 partners of Terminal One
which are Lufthansa, Korean
Air, Air France, and Japan
Airlines, the Carlyle Aviation
Group, McKissack & McKissack
and from investors from
JetBlue Millennium Partners
including RXR Realty, Vantage
Airport Group, Palsey
Management Group, and J.
Kristensen Associates.
The agenda covered reports
from each committee,
new announcements including
the census taking at the
event, online community feedback
input and ideas to share
with the redevelopment team
and the addition of a new Kennedy
Central Hub (KCH) redevelopment
project were highlights
of new information.
Port is seeking proposals to
develop a portion of the KCH
through an RFI (Request for
information) initially for adding
development on the top of
the Ground Transportation
Center and garage described
as “determining the most effective
and functional way to
leverage tis blank canvas in a
fashion that will complement
and add value to the airport
experience.” The Port is open
to all ideas to create a unique
traveler and employee experience
in this 16 acre site. Proposals
must be received by
August with formal request
for submitter qualifications
then issuance of an RFP. The

A big emphasis was placed
on the new Community Input
Submission which the Redevelopment
Outreach Team
created for direct connection
between the Advisory Council
and the public which can submit
an idea or suggestion on
committees of Business Development,
Career/Workforce,
Education, and Environmental

There was an announcement
that a census of business
owners was being taken at the
event adding to over 52,000
local businesses which have
been identified in the local targeted
zip codes. The Council is
creating its own database to
use as ongoing communications
between event attendees
and developers through electronic,
telephone and mailing
means.
The Business Development
Committee reported it has
been identifying new and existing
local resources to assist
in preparing local and MWBE
businesses to compete for contracting
opportunities and
determining ways to support
businesses looking to be a concessionaire.

of the McKissack organizations
spoke abut their MWBE
work in engaging events supporting
the 30% WMBE project
participation. Supporting
events included participation
in open houses, JFK Rotary
Run, Queens Chamber of
Commerce Expo, Council
for Airport Opportunity and
ASDO open houses, Aviation
Career Days and more. A construction
information session
and a site mobilization information
session will be held
respectively September 18 &
August 22 in conjunction with
regular consulting hours at
the Jamaica Redevelopment
Community Center.
The Advisory Council was
pleased to report the number
of activities undertaken
in supporting the MWBE efforts:
4 professional services
roundtables in Security and
construction, bimonthly
M/W/S/D/BE certification
workshops with 14 certifications
in process and 22 new
ones to date. Upcoming events
include more roundtables (August
September), more certification
workshops and ABCDE
information session in the
summer 2019. Suzette bather-
Taylor praised the group for
the great updates and spoke
on the value of the business
census that will provide business
owners of Queens to gain
visibility and who can provide
services to the redevelopment..
She asked for all to
leave their business information
at the sign-in so the Council
can inform those interested,
qualified and certified
of redevelopment opportunities.
The Environmental Stewardship
Committee is determining
ways to reduce consumption
of fossil fuels and
enhance local participation
in the clean energy economy
through initiatives such as
solar power and requiring developers
to meet a minimum
of LEED silver certification
for buildings. In addition the
committee is seeking ways
to protect the Jamaica Bay
waters, reduce air emissions
during construction and to
support the natural habitats
around the airport.
The Workforce Committee
through Amit Rikhy of
CAG reported on the progress
of development of the
JFK Airport Academy which
is a training facility for local
members for careers in aviation.
