A Salute to the Customs and
Border Protection agency
PHOTOPAGE BY
JEFF YAPALATER
The Customs and Border
Protection or CBP is one of the
airport agencies that works
behind the scenes in so many
ways. They are involved in
inspection, interception, investigation,
seizure and collaboration
with the cargo
community in particular.
During the past few
months, CBP has been very
busy supervising the import
of vast number of Covid related
supplies from all over
the globe. Seemingly clever
criminals have hidden illegal
substance inside some parcels
but many are found and destroyed
by the CBP
From the largest air
freighters in the world to
small foreign government aircraft,
the CBP has been on the
forefront of protecting our agriculture,
intellectual property,
counterfeit goods, illegal
drugs and firearms.
The CBP has also been
a friend to the local neighborhoods
where they have
brought much needed relief
to the essential workers serving
our hospitals and geriatric
facilities bearing food and
friendship.
The stakeholder community
at JFK Airport also has
a friend, Port Director Frank
Russo, who will soon be leaving
for the heart of CBP action
in Washington, D.C. We wish
him well. We also welcome Sal
Ingrassia who has also been
a friend of the community, to
the role of Acting Port Director.
JFK Port Director Francis Russo
moves on to CBP headquarters in
Washington, D.C. The community
thanks the Director for his service
and friendship. We wish him well in
his new position.
