Welcome back Cradle of Aviation!
It reopened to the public
On July 9th, Nassau
County Executive Laura Curran
was the main speaker celebrating
the reopening of the
Cradle of Aviation in Garden
City. On hand were Cradle
Board members, the Nassau
County Health Department
and fire engine companies
from around the island to celebrate
the event. Always an
important aviation museum
popular with schools and
general public, the Cradle
has been closed for months
due to the Covid crisis. The
opening coincided with the
Phase 4guidlines mandated
by NYS. Curran credited
this recent phase to the public
wearing face masks and
practicing social distancing
saying this will allow the
Cradle to “continue to rock.”
Accordingly safety and
health precautions have
been implemented so that the
public can feel comfortable
in visiting. Said President
Andy Parton, “The Cradle
staff and volunteers are excited
to be able to reopen the
museum to provide visitors
with a safe and exciting experience.
We welcome everyone
to celebrate the 75th anniversary
of the end of WWII as
well as the 50th Anniversary
of the F-14 Tomcat,” (which,
by the way, is in the great
hall of the museum).
As a special thank you to
frontline workers, the museum
is offering free admission
until August 30, with
a valid employee ID. To insure
safety of all visitors over
the age of 2 are required to
wear face masks and disposable
ones will be available for
those who do not have one. Social
distancing and health reminder
signage will be display
to reassure the public that the
museum has a high level of
concern for their safety. Hours
are Thursday-Sunday, 10am-
4pm. The cafe is offering limited
pre-packaged items. The
Theatre, Planetarium, Junior
Jet Club and Nunleys’s
are temporarily closed. The
main halls with all the exhibits
and actual planes are open
to browse.
