TSA roadmap to future
Key is security innovation
The Transportation Security
Administration (TSA) has published
an outline of new key objectives
to continuously improve security
and safeguard the nation’s
transportation systems.
TSA Administrator David Pekoske
presented his objectives
intended to guide the agency
and its workforce over the next
two years on managing new
global security risks to safeguard
all modes of transportation.
The “Administrator’s Intent
2.0,(AI2.0)” addresses tangible security
threats across seven broad
categories: insider risk, surface
transportation, checkpoint strategies,
workforce support, cybersecurity,
outcome-oriented policy
management, and utilization

says the roadmap also includes
lessons learned thus far
from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The 1st category encompasses
key objectives:

canine detection capabilities

threat information.
-Expand the use of TSA Pre-
Check™ Application Program fees

credentialing activities through
expanded approvals for data use
and new or refi ned information
technology solutions for vetting
and identity verifi cation.

to reduce cybersecurity risk.
-Conduct One Stop Security arrangements
in coordination with
industry stakeholders and international
partners.

of additional entities, such as
fulfi llment centers; applying cargo
security controls in line with revised
international standards affecting
screening requirements
for all-cargo carriers.
-Implement a framework to enhance
surface transportation security,
The 2nd category: Accelerate
Action, focuses on establishing
and promoting mechanisms to foster
continuous improvement, in
order to best anticipate and counter
the changing threat across
transportation modes. The objectives
in this mission area are as
follows:
-Develop a process to increase
the quality and speed of decision
making at TSA
-Defi ne and implement a business
intelligence capability to provide
improved data sharing.
-Seek and use innovative procurement
processes
-Advance TSA’s capability to
leverage and incorporate innovations
in artifi cial intelligence.
-Research and pilot remote
screening and contactless or
lighter touch transportation security
equipment and processes.
-Implement business methods
and solutions that enable TSA
leadership and the workforce to
adopt and leverage technologies.
-Institutionalize a comprehensive
strategic planning capability
to advance the planning culture
and expertise at TSA.
-Improve, enhance and centralize
TSA’s enterprise-wide Insider
Threat Program.
The 3rd category: Commit to
our People, is focused on hiring,
training and equipping the TSA
workforce:

workforce requirements.

ASDO’s Covid connectivity
Brings businesses together
BY DOLORES HOFMAN
JFK PROGRAM MANAGER
In spite of the pandemic, both
the Queens and New Jersey Air
Services Development Offi ces (ASDOs)
continue to match local businesses
with all Port Authority of
New York and New Jersey airport
buyers at JFK, LaGuardia, Newark,
Teterboro and Stewart airports. We
register local businesses for future
opportunities with Terminal Operators,
airlines and general contractors,
with free referrals for a wide
variety of products and/or services.
Recently, we have provided many
referrals for PPE, disinfectants and
other related items to many happy
“buyers.” In addition, we have vendors
and service suppliers who can
provide business with items that
are needed, and in some cases required,
to keep their employees
SAFE during and after reopening
(i.e. privacy plexiglass enclosures,
safety walls, etc).
Each ASDO sponsors an Annual
Networking Event, Queens ASDO
in the Spring and New Jersey
ASDO in the Fall, which are actually
reverse-trade shows, whereby
airlines, general contractors and
other airport tenants, in addition
Helene Gibbs, EWR ASDO Program Mgr.
to Technical Assistance companies,
each occupy a complimentary
trade show table. Our product and
service suppliers then visit each
table letting these “buyers” know
what products and services they
have available–it’s like making approximately
forty sales calls in one
morning!
We collaborate with all Port Authority
of New York and New Jersey
Community Outreach Offi ces
at JFK, LaGuardia, Newark, Elizabeth,
and the Port Authority’s Offi
ce of Diversity and Inclusion. We
maintain regular residency at each
Outreach Offi ce.
