Made in the U.S.A.
Actually made in NYC!
Governor Cuomo announced
that two NYC companies received
state support will be awarded a
share of nearly $2 million in state
support to produce needed supplies
combating the COVID pandemic.
These grant funds will help alleviate
product shortages due to supply
chain issues that could lead to unfair
pricing practices. The companies
will also increase the State’s
manufacturing capacity while creating
new jobs and market opportunities.
To date, NYS has announced
more than $20 million in grants to
36 qualifying New York-based companies
to retool their business lines
and pivot to manufacturing vital
supplies for ongoing response and
recovery efforts.
1 Atelier– $500,000– New York
City– 1 Atelier is a maker of handbags

pandemic hit the City in March, the
company’s CEO decided that she
needed to help the medical community

get the PPE they needed while
at the same time keeping her staff
of 60 employed through what they
knew would be a hard time. With
the assistance of this grant, 1 Atelier
shifted to making N95 respirators
for the medical community
and expects to have its National Institute
for Occupational Safety and
Health approval early next year.
Borden Manufacturing–
$46,000– New York City– Borden
Manufacturing fabricates hospital
equipment such as disposable cubicle
curtains and medical waste
bags. The company is receiving a
grant to retool its facility to produce
Level 1 disposable hospital gowns
and disposable masks. The rampup
will include the purchase of machinery
and equipment, raw materials
and the hiring of four new
staff. The approximately $166,000
project will allow Borden to produce
365 masks and 3,276 gowns per
week at full ramp-up.
SAF comes
to the U.S.
Avfuel partners with Neste
Avfuel Corp. has formed a strategic
partnership with Neste to create
an efficient, continuous supply
of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)
in the U.S.
Neste will provide Avfuel with
SAF in volumes able to meet the
growing demands of Avfuel’s customers,
including fixed base operators
(FBOs), airports, flight departments,
original equipment
manufacturers (OEMs) and commercial
operators. Avfuel will be a
branded SAF distributor for Neste,
and will sell it under the brand
name Neste MY Sustainable Aviation
Fuel.
The partnership positions Avfuel
as one of the first U. S, companies
able to supply its customers
with SAF on a continuous basis.
Monterey Jet Center (KMRY), an
Avfuel-branded FBO in Monterey,
Calif.,will be the first customer to
receive a consistent supply of SAF.
With the first delivery scheduled
for the first quarter of 2021, Neste
and Avfuel will work with KMRY to
ensure that the entire supply chain
functions smoothly before rolling
the program out to a larger customer
base.
Neste has been at the vanguard
of sustainable aviation fuel production
for nearly a decade and the company
expects to have the capacity to
produce some 1.5 million tons (515
million gallons) of SAF annually by
2023. Neste’s SAF is made from sustainably
sourced, renewable waste
and residue materials—such as used
cooking oil for example. It is a dropin
fuel that offers an immediate way
to directly reduce greenhouse gas
emissions from aircraft, requiring
no new investments, modifications
or changes to the aircraft or fuel distribution
procedures.
Prior to use, the Neste MY SAF
is blended with petroleum-based jet
fuel and then the blended product is
verified to meet ASTM D-1655 specification
for jet fuel. Neste’s SAF can
reduce greenhouse gas emissions
by up to 80% compared to fossil jet
fuel.
T4 JFKIAT VR Experience
Welcome to a virtual NY experience
Terminal 4 at John F. Kennedy
International Airport – one of the
world’s most modern and efficient
air terminals – is now the home of
“This is New York,” a virtual reality
(VR) experience. This interactive
journey will allow customers
at the terminal to experience New
York City’s landmarks and destinations
– from a safe distance.
“This is New York” is a VR experience
dedicated to highlighting the
hidden and monumental destinations
within the five boroughs of New York
City, including the Queens Unisphere,
the Staten Island Ferry, Brooklyn
Bridge Park, the Prospect Park Boathouse,
and the 191st Street Subway
Station. The experience, hosted by
JFKIAT and designed by Christian
Rietzke and Jourdan Ferguson, can
be accessed through a mobile device
with the help of VR goggles.
“As the international gateway
to New York City, we are proud to
provide this virtual installation to
showcase some of the city’s most
treasured destinations,” said Roel
Huinink, President and CEO of
JFKIAT. “The pandemic has made
it more difficult for visitors to see
some of the iconic locations in the
city, and this experience allows
them to safely see some of the best
landmarks New York City has to offer
when traveling through T4.”

The Port Authority is taking
the next step toward replacement
of the AirTrain at Newark Liberty
International Airport with the publication
today of the Draft Environmental
Assessment (Draft EA) of
the project and commencement of a
30-day period of public review and
comment.
The Draft EA, an integral part
of the AirTrain Newark Replacement
Program, is required by the
National Environmental Policy Act
(NEPA). The Draft EA evaluates the
potential environmental impacts of
the project across 17 impact categories.
The Draft EA and an overview
presentation are available on the
Port Authority’s website for public
review and comment starting today,
February 11, until March 12, 2021.
“The Draft Environmental Assessment
for the new AirTrain at
Newark Liberty International Airport
is a critical step forward in the
process of modernizing one of the
busiest travel hubs in the country,”
said Governor Murphy. The new
AirTrain Newark will be a 2.5-mile
elevated guideway train system and
is a critical component of the modernization
