FOR BREAKING NEWS VISIT www.qns.com DECEMBER 1, 2016 • THE COURIER SUN 47 sports Two BWG soccer teams finish first and second in their respective Thanksgiving weekend tournaments BY ANTHONY GIUDICE [email protected] @A_GiudiceReport Two of the Blau Weiss Gottschee (BWG) soccer teams were in action over the Thanksgiving break, winning fi rst and second place in two different indoor tournaments. The 2008 U9 Blue team took fi rst place in the U10 Division at the Rockland Harvest Feast Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 27. The team worked hard while playing in an older division, but stayed true to the BWG style of play, which paid off as they went undefeated at the tournament. This 2008 U9 team was also crowned U9 champions of the Northport Columbus Day Tournament and have successfully made it to the top 16 in the New York Cup. Their coaches expect great things from them and are proud of their development in such a short period of time. Meanwhile, the 2003 girls won the second place in the SUSA Thanksgiving tournament by defeating the Elmwood Mustangs by a score of 3-0, shutting out the South Huntington Thunders White 1-0, dropping the game versus the South Huntington Th unders Blue 0-2, and beating the Deer Park Hurricanes 2-0. Throughout all of the games, the girls worked very hard playing the ball and creating chances against some tough competition.
