Joel Einhorn, 73, of Utopia Parkway in the Hillcrest section appeared in court on Thursday, Nov. 17, for arraignment on charges including attempted rape, attempted criminal sexual act, attempted dissemination of indecent material to minors and attempted child endangerment. According to the charges, a detective with the New York State Police tasked with fighting computer crime posed as a 13-year-old girl in answering on Oct. 18 a personal ad posted on Craigslist. Einhorn allegedly responded to the ad, chatting with the undercover investigator online who had told the suspect that he was a 13-year-old girl living in Queens. As the conversation continued, prosecutors said, Einhorn used X-rated language and expressed his desire to meet with the teenager for sex. They agreed to meet on Nov. 17 at an unidentified location; Einhorn, who arrived in a red 2015 Honda Civic, was taken into custody upon arrival. Police also found in his vehicle an open black bag containing a variety of sexual paraphernalia, law enforcement sources said. “This case illustrates the tenacity of alleged sexual predators and the amount of time they are willing to expend grooming a teen to accomplish their goal of meeting in person an underage child for sexual relations,” Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown said in a statement. According to court records, Einhorn was ordered held on $7,500 bail and is due back in court on Dec. 20. If convicted of the charges, he faces up to four years behind bars. Correction cop’s wife hit shooter with hammer The wife of a corrections officer wasn’t going down without a fight as two gunmen open-fired at her husband in their Jamaica home over the weekend, it was reported. According to published reports, on Sunday, Nov. 27, at 7 p.m., two men wearing dark hoodies approached Wright’s home on Mathias Avenue near 166th Street and knocked on the door, saying, “It’s Rob.” The suspects were barely in the house when they shot Wright five times in the torso and one time in the shoulder of Sharon Floyd- Wright, Wright’s wife. During the incident, Floyd-Wright reportedly fought back against their attackers, hitting one in the head with the claw end of a hammer. As the suspects were leaving the scene, they said, “Let Rob know I was here.” The suspects fled the scene in a double-parked sedan. Officers from the 113th Precinct responded to the incident. Wright and Floyd-Wright were transported to Jamaica Hospital, where they are now recovering from their injuries. Police recovered six 9-mm shell casings and found blood near where the getaway car was parked at the scene. Citing sources, the New York Daily News reported that the “Rob” mentioned during the home invasion is another corrections officer. It is unknown at this time if there is a connection between Rob and the shooters. Police are investigating whether or not the shooters had any direct connections to Wright as well. The investigation is still ongoing. The gunmen were described as in their late 20s and were last seen wearing black hoodies and blue jeans. Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS, visit their website or send a text message to 274637 (CRIMES), then enter TIP577. All calls and messages are kept confidential. Sestak sustained bullet wounds to his skull, brain, neck and lungs and died of his injuries. Man convicted of 1991 parkway execution Justice was finally served on Nov. 23 to a convicted bank robber from Manhattan for murdering a driver on the Grand Central Parkway in Forest Hills more than 25 years ago. Kevin Smith, 57, was convicted of second-degree murder for his role in the Feb. 8, 1990, shooting death of Frank Sestak, 45, who had been driving Smith and an accomplice, David Hammerstone of Pennsylvania. Both Smith and Hammerstone robbed a bank in Manhattan a month after the murder and were caught soon after by federal agents, according to The Morning Call newspaper in Allentown, PA. However, the Sestak murder would go unsolved until March 2015, when both men were indicted by a Queens County grand jury. Hammerstone pleaded guilty last month to first-degree manslaughter charges and is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 1. During the trial, it was mentioned that the shooting may have been the result of a love triangle involving a woman Smith was dating and Sestak. “Justice eluded the family of the victim for more than 25 years, but today a jury rendered its verdict and found Smith guilty of murder,” Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown said in a statement on Nov. 23. “As a result, the defendant will likely be locked away for the rest of his life.” According to trial testimony, the execution-style slaying took place on Feb. 8, 1990, as Sestak drove a Dodge station wagon along the westbound lanes of the Grand Central Parkway. Hammerstone sat in the front passenger seat, while Smith rode in the rear of the vehicle. Law enforcement sources said Sestak pulled the station wagon over to the shoulder just after the 69th Road/Jewel Avenue exit on the Grand Central Parkway. Moments later, Smith pulled out a revolver and shot Sestak in the head. Smith then exited the vehicle, walked to the driver’s side door and fired more shots into Sestak. Prosecutors said Hammerstone also shot the victim.
