The assault occurred at about 4:40 a.m. near a deli at the corner of Fresh Pond Road and Linden Street. According to police, the victim — a man in his 30s — was walking along Fresh Pond Road when the unidentified suspect struck him in the back of head, knocking the victim out. The motive for the attack remains unknown. Officers from the 104th Precinct responded to the scene along with EMS units, who transported the victim to Elmhurst Hospital; he is listed in serious condition. An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding the assault is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS 106th Precinct Ozone Park, Howard Beach Man gets pummeled by group, then hit by car on Ozone Park street A 23-year-old man was beaten up by a group of assailants, then struck by a car as he stumbled into the street, in Ozone Park on Nov. 14, according to police. Authorities said the man approached the group in front of a location on Liberty Avenue near 109th Street at about 4:15 a.m. It is believed he asked the suspects if they had cigarettes. When he persisted, police said, the group assaulted him about the body. The victim then stumbled into Liberty Avenue and was struck by a black Toyota traveling eastbound on Liberty Avenue. After striking the victim, the car — operated by Emir Zulfiqar, 23, of Brooklyn — did not stop and fled the scene. Zulfiqar was arrested after returning to the scene later; he was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and disobeying a traffic light. Officers from the 106th Precinct and EMS units responded to the scene. Paramedics rushed the victim to Jamaica Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. The group of assailants remain at large; the NYPD released video footage of the perpetrators on Nov. 15. Anyone with information regarding the incident or the suspects’ whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS Rockaway man sentenced for cocaine possession: DA An Arverne man was sentenced to serve 15 years in prison after being convicted of possessing 10 ounces of cocaine that was to be sold, according to Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown. Christopher Brown, 26, was found guilty in October of first- and third- degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. According to trial testimony, a police officer saw Brown throwing a black plastic bag into the lobby of a residence on 185th Street. Officials later discovered the bag contained five plastic bags of cocaine with a total of more than 10 ounces. When police caught Brown, prosecutors noted, they also found $2,120 cash in his pants. “The defendant’s arrest, conviction and now sentencing represents a clear demonstration of my office’s commitment to rid our county of illegal narcotics trafficking and to improve the quality of life of our Queens residents,” Brown said in a statement. According to State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli, Christopher Bunn of Jamaica left his father’s body in a Nassau County morgue for more than a year while he collected $7,542 in pension payments and $17,790 in social security payments, which were being deposited electronically into his father’s checking account. The 49-year-old — who pleaded guilty in October to grand larceny and petit larceny — was sentenced to time served and full restitution, which he paid on Nov. 17 in Queens County Supreme Court. “This case is a warning to anyone attempting to steal state pension funds,” DiNapoli said. “We are tracking you and you will be prosecuted.”
