Free Clothing Pantry Helps Those Who Help Others
Beautiful Memories Gemach is a charity clothing
pantry providing dress and business clothing to
people in need at no cost. They currently stock
over 800 gowns (including prom, bride, bridesmaid,
mother of bride or groom), dresses, men’s and
women’s suits, tuxedos, dress shirts and blouses,
ties, shoes, belts, handbags, scarves, dress hats,
costume jewelry, children’s clothing and more. Items
range from vintage to new with tags. The clothing
is clean and in good condition, suitable to wear for
business, religious services, holidays and other
special occasions.
The Gemach’s mission is to help anyone in need,
regardless of religious affiliation and whether the
need is short or long term. They are happy to serve
individuals with special needs. Even if there is no
financial hardship, if special needs make shopping
for clothing in stores difficult, the Gemach welcomes
them. Beautiful Memories Gemach succeeds in their
goals by working with other organizations designed
to help people dealing with hardships.
Any organization that serves those in need can
make an appointment to visit the Gemach and select
clothing with the assistance of the Gemacheteers
(volunteers). Schools and organizations that
cater to special needs or the disadvantaged are
encouraged to contact the Gemach and set up a
group visit. Thanks to the Gemach, students from
a school for special needs children recently had a
great time selecting fancy outfits and held their very
first prom. At times, schools are able to arrange to
have their students perform community service by
helping out at the Gemach.
At the Beautiful Memories Gemach, visitors are
treated like family and every consideration is given
to their dignity, comfort and privacy. That’s why
they are only open by appointment, so visitors can
have the volunteers’ undivided attention, and no
one else has to know that they were in need. The
Gemacheteers spend hours working to create a
Gemach that is clean, well-organized and attractive.
When people step out wearing clothing from the
Gemach, no one will know that they didn’t shop in
a high-end store, so they can confidently go ahead
and create some beautiful memories of their own.
The Beautiful Memories Gemach was founded
by Mark and Dr. Beth Krieger in memory of their
parents and the beautiful memories they made
together. It is staffed by volunteers and funded
by people who shop at the Gemach and make a
donation, which is typically a fraction of what they
would otherwise pay for the clothing. Mark also
works with other organizations to teach them how
they too could open and run a free clothing pantry.
